Mick Hennessy revealed on Steve Bunce's Boxing Hour that Junior Witter will fight unbeaten American fighter Devon Alexander for the interim WBC light-welterweight title. WBC champion Timothy Bradley, who beat Witter back in May, is set to fight WBO titlist Kendall Holt in a unification fight on April 4, leading the WBC to contest an interim crown. Alexander (17-0, 10 KOs) is rated as one of the best talents in American boxing and would certainly pose a significant threat to the Bradford fighter. "Timothy Bradley's fighting a unification fight and we had some good news over the last 24 hours that we will have an interim title fight for Junior Witter against Devon Alexander," Hennessy said on Setanta Sports News. An opponent the two men have in common is DeMarcus Corley who Witter beat to win the vacant WBC title via a clear points decision in 2006. Alexander won by the same route in January 2008. http://www.setanta.com//uk/Articles...Witter-Alexander-for-vacant-title/gnid-34554/
I like. Excellent opportunity for both fighters, nice clash of styles, youth vs experience, good fight!
This is what's wrong with the governing bodies at the moment! Why the hell should the winner of this be an "interim" champion? Why not just call it a final eliminator and the winner can be the mandatory challenger! No wonder the casual fan gets confused as hell... Having said that, junior welter is hotting up alright. A savvy veteran looking to get back into the picture against a highly rated undefeated comer with the winner to challenge the victor of a unification bout. Hatton-Pac apparently on the verge of being signed. Who knows, maybe the winner of that against the winner of the mini-tourney? Then maybe the Ngoudjo-Urango winner can get back into the mix? Leaves poor old Kotelnik a bit out in the cold but life's not fair sometimes.
Olusegun will probably get a final eliminator against someone else. So...... Unified WBC/WBO Champ = Holt/Bradley Interim WBC = Witter Final Eliminator = Olu vs ??? What a ****ing mess. Who gives a **** about interim matches....... hardly a big sell to the British public, is it?
khotelnik is a euro fighter he'll stay in his home country and string up a row of easy defences, he's not much of a fighter any way he's a pritty slow fighter with poor work rate that remains in a shell for most of the fight.
I agree that he is more than likely to stay in his home country but I disagree with you that you think he is an average fighter, he is a top 10 light-welter IMO.
This could be a good fight, The yanks were talking well of Alexander at one ponit but I doubt he as good as Bradley so if Witter has anything left we may get another Brit doing well again. Ajose is no way near a title fight no matter what the fan say's.
The only person of note Witter has ever stopped is Harris. Any other time he's fought at anything approaching world level, he's never got a KO. Kotelnik, Judah, Bradley, Lynes, N'Dou, Corley, all distance fights.
His 'home country' being The Ukraine or Germany? Being that the guy has fought in eight countries in a 32 fight career, can't really see the basis for the claim either way...
