Does Dawson present a more difficult challenge, to Calzaghe, then Kessler did?

A wind up artist if ever I saw one! As has been said by another poster on here numerous times, if you don't want to fight a guy in the weight class above it's actually very simple. You just don't fight him. You don't sign to fight him, you certainly don't try to rearrange after pulling out once. You just don't sign for the fight. Why on earth would a proven elite p4p world champ have a problem facing a 12 loss journeyman anyway?

Among the luminaries Johnson has lost to:

Omar Sheika (picked apart in five one-sided rounds by Calzaghe)
Syd Vanderpool (stopped by Lacy who Calzaghe demolished)
Silvio Branco (stopped by Woodhall who Calzaghe stopped)
Clinton Woods (clowned by Starie who was easily beaten by... you've guessed it)

That's without mentioning Hopkins who beat him like he called his mother!

I shouldn't even respond on the chins thing as you are clearly on the wind, but Dawson has fought a grand total of four world class fighters (being generous to Johnson) and been on his ass at least twice. Calzaghe has fought about a dozen over a 15 year career and been on his ass three times legitimately. Earlier in his career he took some howitzer shots without flinching. His chin was bomb proof then and is still very good now, watch the uppercuts Kessler and Jones landed for example.

I respect Dawson, he is a good fighter and a danger no doubt about it, but all this trying to slag off a good, proven champ to make him look good is ridiculous.

Dawson had problems with Glen Johnson, back in the day Calzaghe had problems with Robin Reid - big deal.

    Dawson is overrated.

He's a good boxer dont get me wrong. But he's no world beater like people keep making out. He'll chug along as champ until someone decent comes along.

Kessler on the other hand is a true operator. He'll dominate SMW for years to come!

Watch the fight again. Kessler had faster hands on was better on the inside. Calzaghe tried to rough it up 2-3 times, but then found a new game plan. Calzaghe won the fight with his jab, and the second attack.

 Then you didn't see the fight....that much is EVIDENT. What Chad did to Tarver should have erase what took place with Glenn...and even then Chad did well with Glenn who is a VERY tough fighter and one of the top LH's out there. Countering skills were are BLAST with Tarver. Don't speak on a fight you didn't see brah....it makes you transparent.

Well if that's the case he'd better get a move on - he's 30 now or there abouts now.

Dawson isn't a mega draw yet like Floyd Mayweather Jr. That's an obvious because Dawson fights mostly on Showtime, and boxing has deeply declined from the mainstream media. Sure Kessler vs Calzaghe was worth 10 million dollars but it did very poorly in the ratings, given the hype the fight was getting, you would expect it to do better. You honestly think Calzaghe vs Jones Jr. did well? That didn't do good either.

But believe it or not the American public likes quality fights and Calzaghe and Kessler isn't the mega star that you think he is, well in the US there not. Chad Dawson isn't popular but neither is Holyfield, the Klitschko's, or lot of the other boxing champions. The thing is Dawson hardly gets any push from the mainstream media, that's why he isn't popular, coupled with the fact that he's fighting on Showtime (now HBO). Dawson gets his hype from boxing fans and the boxing media.

Kessler V Calzaghe did low TV figures in the UK, and US ... box office wise it was certainly no huge fight.

Hopkins was Joes biggest payday prior to Jones...

By who, and when what is said, exactly? I've never seen Dawson hyped anywhere. He's said to be good - which he is. ^ That's an improper usage of the term "overrated."

  14. Nobody has heard of either guy.

What do you think of Kessler & Calzaghe?

    a. don't they make cookies?
    b. don't they make pizza?
    c. don't they make ice cream?
    d. some low rent law firm?
    e. never heard of either guy

Kessler is a decent fighter but like some others, I think he as gained a lot of credibility for being the best win on someone else's resume.

Kessler has done nothing (resume wise) to improve himself since losing to Joe yet on here his stock has been rising and rising since being convincingly defeated. It's the same with Andrade, and guys like Bika...

For someone who is billed as he is/was, Kessler was a great disappointment against Joe imo, Robin Reid gave a better account of himself against Calzaghe.

Kessler is decent, but also limited in some ways, and his stock on here at the moment is not worthy of the straight line fighter he is, imo. Or even if he is that good, his resume certainly is not paying the bills.
