I don't think it was a lucky shot. Jhonny won every round, but in round 7, Penelosa landed one shot, found it was effective, and just kept pummeling the same spot.

Hmmm..I'll certainly have to rewatch the fight again. Last I remembered there were some menial body shots throughout the round but one perfect one. By perfect I mean absolutely breathtakingly perfect in the right spot at the right time at the right ammount of distance. One of those stars align and the moon turns red sort of punches.

There's this part where Penelosa finally decks him in the straight on the stomach, and Gonzalez plays with his trunks. This is with 1:05 left in the round. But its obvious he got hurt there, and Penelosa stops headhunting, and goes that body until he gets that perfect shot. I'll never get over that smile of his, hahaha.

Riiiight. Because I meant to "pull a fast one" and make it seem as though you'd said that, seriously. It's not at all that you just don't have a very sharp sense of humor.

FourtyOunce, give it up. You're not funny, you don't know boxing, and you're getting owned. Stop before you look worse.

I'm a big Jhonny Gonzalez fan, used to watch him on Boxeo de Oro.. and I became a fan for the the stupid way that Mexican announcer used to call him Jhonny "Jhonny" Gonzalez. The guy is good, elite? Nah.. but World Class.. yes.

Gamboa is like a way more talented Jason Litzau. Get's stupid, but is an offensive powerhouse, who doesn't know when to back off and draw a guy in. It's really hard to look spectacular against a guy who doesn't really want to fight, much like Gonzalez did.. and I like Roger.. or should say "liked" him. The layoff killed any chance he ever had.. and he didn't fight like he normally does.. but of course he was fighting Gamboa.. who has speed and power and is awkward. He felt his only shot was to block and time a shot when he could... he knew he had no other shot. Guys who fight back are going to be even easier for Gamboa to fight... as the counter is his weakness.

Absolutely bogus. They should have let the guy finish the fight.

Well, add him to the now-growing list of those who have exposed Gamboa's questionable chin!

It's too bad Gonzalez was content with that KD because he had plenty of opportunities to land punches. He was just there round in and round out with his earmuffs on and I guess he was o.k. with it. It boggles the mind how a fighter can KD a guy and then act like he has no chance at winning the fight. It was a crappy night of boxing if you ask me.

Solis is straight garbage. Maybe he gets better, but I doubt it.

Rewatching it, lucky may have been a stretch mainly because from the start of the round, Gerry is trying to land it. He throws one at about the 2:10 mark that's just too short from the mark. It probably would've gotten the KO there had it landed.

IT IS a perfect shot however.

That Gerry punch shocked the hell out of me, I had picked Jhonny confidently, and IIRC he was a heavy and pretty much unanimous favorite. I like Jhonny but was real happy for Pena as the old 'dog.

Ya, pummel was the wrong word. In my post with the video, I stated that after he lands that body shot and sees its effective, he starts going in low aiming for it. Which is accurate.

It really is a "perfect" shot, but he was definitely aiming for it. Lucky, it is not. Just an on the fly gameplan that work. Gerry has great boxing IQ.

Also, the stoppage is this Gamboa fight was eh. That Gonzalez was on his way out and dropped his mouthguard for time. Byrd kept us from getting something for the highlight reel.
