How the hell is Cooper a World Beater ?? Its Lewis and Fitz clear at the top, then Bruno and then 'nothing' on a world level ..... Cooper, Hide, Akinwande, Williams, Skelton were domestic level fighters .... 'Henry Cooper - Dont Believe The Hype'

 

If Cooper hadnt of caught a lazy/clowning Ali in the 4th, nobody and i mean nobody would be saying Cooper was a great fighter .. Herbie Hide and Matt Skelton didnt get beat by guys like Joe Erskine and Joe Bygraves, let alone being annihilated by Johannson and Patterson.
Henry Cooper was a domestic level, very average fighter who made his name and his fortune from 1 punch, that doesnt make him a world level fighter

 

Of course its Lewis and Fitz at the top, that goes without saying, but the OP had Cooper at number 8 which for a guy that won 3 Lonsdales and was the best in Europe for 8 years is too low when you consider the opposition he's up against (Skelton, Akinwande, London, Dunn etc)

 

Cooper made is name when it was hard to get past domestic level, there were no shortcuts like there are today. People do overate Cooper because of "that fight" with Ali but he's also underated by people who think that thats all he achieved in his career.

 

I'd rather have a guy like Cooper that was proven over a long period at European level, than Matt Skelton who just picked up the belt aged 56.

 

Thats a very good point about domestic levels in different era's but Lonsdale belts are nothing but Domestic trinkets .... Lonsdale belts are worshipped in this country for historic purposes but they actually mean nothing

 

Which proves my point. I have Cooper with Skelton in my domestic list .. They were both a 'name' on these shores but against anybody with any kind of class they were nothing, in fact many times if they were in with guys with no class, they still got beat ..
