:goodFair enough. I just don't see the fascination with the trilogy.

    Me too.

They aren't great fighters though, so it never really wows us like the great fights between great fighters do.

I also liked the Leonard - Duran fight at montreal... both showed incredible will to win...

so you don't like the fight because they were not "name" fighters? i think that's totally ludicrous for two reasons.

one is that the fights of "name" boxers have that big match atmosphere into it. they have thousands of people yelling, months of preparation, press cons, and other type of hype, which IMO could exaggerate that action in the ring. it may seem, due to the shouting and howling, that all the punches are connecting when they are really not

the second is that most "name" fighters protect themselves. they have a lot to lose so most of them take the easy route most of the times. when they're already ahead in the scorecards, they stop taking risks.

boxing isnt about names. it's about two men wanting to prove who the better fighter is.

The Gatti-Ward trilogy lacked the level of skills of the Morales-Barreras's one but we got to be humbled by seeing these two guys took the punishment they were taking.

Exactly. So when punches do land, it's more impressive. When you are able to break through an opponent's impressive defense, it impresses me.

The Sithchatchawal/Monshipour was filled with sloppy blows, which appeared to have nothing behind them --- regardless of whether or not they actually hurt. Too many arm punches. I like to admire fighters, and while I enjoy heart and soul, I also do enjoy some technique and class to go with it. Compare it to Corrales/Castillo I the year before, and Marquez/Vasquez II the year after. Big difference in terms of the aesthetic quality for us viewers. That year, I would have gone with Morales/Pacquiao II as FotY.

I just like seeing some technique even in a brawl. For example, I enjoyed the hell out of Barrera-Marquez.

I understand there are other good fights...

But Ward-Gatti I has to be one of the ten best fights, EVER.

yeah, i appreciate skill and all but i think that a fight of the year should really be a fight. morales-pac 1 was better than morales pac-2 for me because morales was a faded fighter at that time.

i just appreciate this one because they really didnt care if they lived or died. they wanted to win that fight badly
