I am surprised that so many do not know the difference. A knockout is when a fighter can't get up at the count at 10,or simply out cold, like Lewis was knocked out by Rahman, or Rahman was knocked out by Lewis in the rematch. A TKO is when a fight is stopped because a ref decides to stop a fight for a fighter taking too many punches, hurt, eyes do not look right, etc., or, for no reason as in the case of the Gamboa/Gonzales fight,to protect Gamboa's KO record? yes, there is a difference.
i dont know who you had to explain that to but this is a boxing forum so i think every one already knows pal.:good
Depends on the situation really. If the guy is clearly knocked cold and the ref waves the count it usually goes down as a KO. Now if the guy has already hit the deck a few times and goes down again and the ref stops the fight imediately before he has a chance to get to his feet then it usually goes down as a TKO. Kind of hard to explain the difference really. I guess much of it is up to the referee's disgretion.
there are plenty of times when TKO occurs and the fighter is KTFO. Pavlik-Tyalor 1 is a perfect example
TKO - the ref, doctor, or the corner says the fighter has had enough KO - the fighter personally lets everyone know they have had enough
