    I know Jersey Joe Walcott himself refereed title fights... but I think there was a black referee in one of his fights with Charles.

    Yes, Stanley. South African. Primarily a WBA official for most of his career as a judge and referee. The third man in the ring for the Pryor-Arguello battle. :good
