Calzaghe doesn't want a rematch with anyone, least not Hopkins. He'll probably retire anyway. If Hopkins talks **** he'll have even less chance of getting the fight. Why not think before you make a thread in future?
Have a look at the post to which you responded. REMATCH was not an issue. The post was written BEFORE the Calzaghe /Hopkins fight. Why not READ before you answer a post in future?
Hmm when he said "A white boy would never beat me",he meant it and it was an instinctive statement. Basically his mouth ran away with itself and he said too much.I don't believe he's dumb ..sometimes delusional, egotistical but quite sharp with it. I wonder if he slightly wishes he'd kept that statement to himself and fought a different fight ala Pavlik. If neither of those things had happened many would percieve himin a different light ,me included...
Tho your right, a REMATCH actually IS an issue now. Joe wont give him one...even tho, other than Dawson, its the only fight that makes sense. I mean, I feel Joe won the first one...but it was a very close fight, with quite a few razor thin rounds (ones I gave to Joe on workrate, but could be argued Bernard's way on the fact that he BY FAR landed the cleaner, harder shots in them). Its a fight that left MANY doubts in people's minds about both fighters, even after Joe's hand was raised. In fact, here are a couple quotes for ya to prove my point about a REMATCH being actually a big issue... Bernard Hopkins - "I want a rematch with Joe Calzaghe! I will even go to Wales this time!!!" Joe Calzaghe - "I dont give rematches!" Mario Veit - "WHAT?!?!?" :hey
The first fight was just bad would a rematch be any different? I think not.. Mario 'Mandatory' Veit -He is a deserving champion and it was over after the first knock-down."
But going on how you "think"...seeing as many feel Hopkins won, then doesnt that hold weight for them as well? I mean, if it would go the same way, then they would see HIM winning again right? As for Veit, I think you missed the point of my joke. Calzaghe has maintained since Hopkins asked for a rematch, that he "DOESNT GIVE REMATCHES"!!! Correct? Well, Mario Veit was deserving enough for Joe to grant one to, but not a future HOFer and top 30-40 ATG, who he barely squeeked by??? Its ridiculous....and I am a HUGE Calzaghe fan (One of my all time favs...been a fan since he beat Eubank...). But the excuses he has made about rematching Hopkins are laughable at best.
Apologies. I don't tend to read post dates, I wasn't expecting a topic to be bumped from 2007. Why the **** did you do that thunder?
No I got the Veit joke I was just joining in :smooch and I agree that a rematch could yield the same inconclusiveness to many and probably not be a very entertaining fight to many. If it is Joe's farewell fight I'd like to see a challenge but one more pleasing on the eye,Dawson or Froch would do me. I know Froch doesn't deserve it but it would be an entertaining match up I think.
I think I may have misunderstood you then...my fault!! :hey As for a Froch fight...I feel Froch is very limited and would get badly outpointed by Joe. But it would be fun to watch...gotta admit that. But really tho, other than Dawson and Hopkins, there are not really any fights that make too much sense for Joe. I hope he takes one of them, as he is still far too good to walk away.
Yes against Froch I do feel Joe would run away on points but Froch does bang and has a fair variety of shots which he didn't really delve into against Pascal. He also has a good chin ,as Joe does so he'd put himself forward and take a few (at Joe's speed) to give a big one. There's also a fair bit of needle between them Joe's refuses to acknowledge Carl and Carl says Joe's no challenge and stupid. It probably has more domestic appeal but it could just deliver. A Dawson win for Joe would cap his career off and if Dawson wins that would cement his credentials as a real contender/champ. As a fan of Joe's I think this fight is almost becoming a neccessity to close the book, although I understand the retire undefeated as champ thing must be pulling hard at him
Even though we differ widely on how we scored the first fight and I saw it as a wide UD with lots of unimpressive rounds by both fighters (one was in survival mode for half of the fight), I wouldn't be opposed to a rematch, assuming Calzaghe doesn't retire. If he fights again, I would like to see Dawson as the opponent. This would be IMO a 50/50 fight and pose the biggest risk to Joe's 0 since Kessler. If not that, then I would like to see Glenn Johnson in there as Joe would IMO, embarrass him and he keeps claiming to have been ducked. (Mind you, to the casual observer he has a case, But those aware of the circumstances know there was (a) good reasons and (b) Johnson was not a serious threat at that time, his reputation coming much later on KOing a shell-shocked Roy) Other than those two fights, Hopkins makes the most sense. I don't put much stock in his no-rematch philosophy, though it is consistent. Veit was forced on him by mandatory considerations. All that said, it's hard to see what difference a second fight would make to Bernard. The only chance he has is his hyper-longevity. Joe's got to get old sometime (he's coming 37) and Maybe Bernard (at 43) doesn't ! BTW, I made a nice little packet on Bernards dismantling of Kelly. Third time Bernard's has made me some loot (Tito & Tarver).
No problem. You just pissed a little hard all over the thread starter. Anyway, like you say, it was all thunder's fault !:yep
