Pacquiao: 60/40 or no fight! Team Hatton: we are pulling the plug!

The Pacquiao-Hatton showdown on May 2 is a done deal. What remains to be ironed out is the split in revenue given that both fighters both bring fans and excitement to the table.

My inside information said immediately after the ODLH-Pacman fight, both camps from the Filipino boxing superstar and the Mancurian Hitman were already sitting down for a possible match-up between their two popular wards.

Hatton's camp immediately drew the line as far as purses and split in revenues are concerned.

They want it, the fight, done at the Wembley Arena where the venue could be reconfigured to seat 100,000 rabid British fans.

That would have not been a problem as far as Pacquiao is concerned who went on record that he is willing to fight Hatton – anywhere and anytime.

But there was a catch in that proposal.

Hatton's camp reportedly wanted a lion's share of the pay per view proceeds in England which was promptly rejected by Pacquiao's emissaries.

"They want the bigger share of the PPV in the UK. We want them added to the total pot," an unimpeachable source confided to this corner.

Now that the fight is locked up for a Las Vegas date, it is interesting to figure out who gets the juicier slice of the PPV and the bigger guaranteed purse.

Both Pacquiao and Hatton got their biggest fight purse when they fought Oscar de la Hoya and Floyd Mayweather Jr., respectively.

Hatton got something within the vicinity of US$10 million for his 10th round knockout loss to Mayweather while Pacquiao's financial team has yet to ring in the cash register for the final figure Manny will get for forcing De la Hoya to surrender after eight rounds.

Pacquiao should earn no smaller than US$15 million gross which includes his guaranteed purse, share in the PPV upside, Philippine TV rights, live gate receipts and other peripheral financial bonanzas.

So, who then deserves the bigger pie when these two little titans clash in May this year?

This should be none of this corner's business but Manny should cash in on his newfound status as boxing's biggest superstar and now its biggest draw following his conquest of De la Hoya.

Outside of his British fans, Hatton is hardly a household name in the US.

Fact is, over the last three years, Manny has consistently delivered PPV numbers and has not been involved in a bust of a bout even when fighting the likes of Oscar Larios and Jorge Solis.

That cannot be said of Hatton who has fought only five times in the US over the last three years while Pacquiao figured in nine blockbuster and exciting fights over the same period.

Both Manny and Ricky hold belt titles although the Filipino southpaw is expected to give up his WBC lightweight crown and campaign in the 140-147 lbs limits. Hatton is a light welterweight title holder but this is for the fringe International Boxing Organization (IBO).

Nobody really cares about the alphabet soup titles nowadays. This should not be a big deal in determining who gets the bigger take home pay the day after the 2nd day of May.

    Both camps could meet halfway.

Manny and Hatton could split 50-50 the PPV proceeds in the UK while Manny should get 65 per cent over the rest.

The two could also split the live gate receipts considering that Las Vegas could yet be another arena for rabid British fan invasion.

Manny should also get a guaranteed purse equivalent to his gross earnings in the De la Hoya fight while Hatton could be assured at least US$6 million plus his share in the upsides of PPV proceeds and other collateral income.

    That should be fair enough.

Manny was perfectly right when he insisted on a 60-40 split over the PPV purse. His stature as the newest P4P king and his conquest of Oscar de la Hoya makes him the new biggest draw in boxing. He deserves the bigger pot if only for those two accomplishments.

As I have said before, Hatton's camp may be pushing their hands and luck too far. Outside of a Pacquiao-fight, there is no one out there who could bring him more than US$3 million in guaranteed prize.

Come on, Ricky. What's a couple of millions between you and Manny. Don't emulate Juan Manuel Marquez who sneered at the purse offered to him by Top Tank immediately after his first fight with Manny which ended in a controversial draw.

Remember, more than the purse that goes along with the fight, it is one excellent opportunity for you to wrest the P4P king honors from Pacquiao and for more money fights to come. If you beat Pacquiao, that is.

While you are one of the boxing's hottest propeprties, you have not fought top-level fighters except Floyd Mayweather Jr. and, perhaps, Kostya Tszyu and a washed up Kose Luis Castillo.

Give your fans a good bout to cheer and show their famous rowdy thirst for blood. Don't be a spoil.

Hatton's legal counsel Gareth Williams insisted the Hatton Camp would only consider a 50/50 split for the fight, while Pacquiao's negotiators were adamant that they want a 60/40 share for their man.

Franklin Gacal, Pacquiao's lawyer, insisted the Filipino fighter would not accept an equal share and may look for another opponent.

However, Williams, speaking exclusively to Telegraph Sport, insisted: "We already have a verbal agreement from Pacquiao's promoter Bob Arum that it would be 50/50 split for the contest. We have said all along that that is all we are prepared to do, and Arum has agreed to the equal share."

It would appear that the two camps are at an impasse, for a fight expected to generate £40 million.

Gacal, in a Monday morning interview at Ninoy Aquino International Airport aboard a Philippines Airline flight from Los Angeles, told Dyan Castillejo of ABS-CBN that they "will not agree to a 50-50 sharing" as put forward by Arum, the Top Rank promoter Bob Arum and Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer, who acts for Hatton in the States. Conversely, Gacal insisted that Pacquiao wants the lion's share of a 60-40 split.

Gacal added that if the promoters and the Hatton camp fail to agree to the terms laid down by Pacquiao they would "find another opponent." It is thought that Floyd Mayweather Jr could be in the frame as Pacquiao's alternative opponent.

Means its only Pac's stupid greedy attorney is f*cking up the bout, he doesn't even has rights to negotiate. Maybe he really is brain washing Pac. For all we know even if Pac TKOd Hoya, he is not yet the star attraction of boxing until he defeats Hatton. Pac knows it, and he should kick that damn attorney asap.

i still believe that this fight will push through. there is just too much money at stake for both fighters here.

also, if you have ever been to a nego meeting, (contract negotiations, business meetings etc) especially when lawyers are involved, do expect it to hit some rough seas before it is signed and delivered. lawyers are paid to go this kind of ****, (and yes, i am a lawyer for those who would even attempt to diss this thought. )

do not give this news too much thought. both fighters are just angling for more cash since after all, they are prizefighters right. this is their business and people who are in business are there to make money and not fight for charity.

Too much money in this fight for the sane people in both camps not to come to a compromise. It would be a damn tragedy if this fight doesn't happen because of bull**** negotiations.

Even if he absolutely murders Pac he won't become p4p #1, nowhere near close. Hatton is more interested in drawing Mayweather into a rematch.

250k buys against Diaz compared to Hattons 1.4m in the UK alone against Mayweather shows you are plain wrong...and the casual fan in the UK didn't know who the **** Mayweather was. Ricky Hatton would sell 1.4m fighting me

Because in UK they wouldn't mind wasting money of PPV's. In Philippines there is no such thing as PPV, only 5-10% can afford it. Most people would just wait for the free delayed telecast as what large network does on all Pac's bout. Or go into free screenings by the government officials(which only count as 1 ppv sale), go watch at bars(which only count as 1 ppv sale), go to cinemas(which also count as 1 ppv sale)...and not to mention thousands watching them.
I used to work in one of the network branches in Dubai(much as we call TFC), and on every Pac PPV 1 customer who pays the PPV has like 10-20 people watching it. So it lessens Pac PPV sales.
Unlike in UK 1 customer only has a family or his own.

dude..ask for a 60-40 split, and fight Hatton in Wembley..if pac wants more money, he should at least be paid more to fight on Ricky's turf.

If this fight is in England, Pac TRULY deserves %60. I'm pretty sure they would let Hatton enter the ring with loaded gloves and a baseball bat there. :good

It seems like someone in Pacquiao's legal team know's their stuff!

Hatton agreeing to 30% plus the UK PPV money for Floyd must have rung alarm bells somewhere, because Team Hatton are seriously money-mad.

50/50 is fair.some boxers are too ****ing greedy.

Yeah, besides..Pac might be his only chance to redeem himself, thru a rematch, of that silly KO that PBF put on him. PAC fighting PBF will actually be bigger than this.

    Really?

All I see in a Pac vs Floyd matchup is a one-sided ass whipping to be honest, with the former P4P king regaining his status.
