Felix Trinidad is Overrated...Especially his Punching Power....You agree?

It's true that his punching power is a little overrated.De La Hoya was almost as good a puncher as him but doesn't get credited as such.His resume speaks for itself though!

Oh dear God, there is so much ignorance and hatred going on this thread that I literally don't know where to begin...
1) Felix Trinidad is Overrated...Especially his Punching Power....You agree? Overrated, definitely by some, but if you read this thread alone and you have a functioning brain than you can see he's even more underrated and disrespected.

2) His punching power... he was a great puncher and fighter at welterweight and was even successful at higher weight classes. The illegal hand wraps are not that big of a deal. What the thread starter fails to point out is that Papa Trinidad also says he wraps all of his fighters hands like that (yet only Trinidad is considered a first ballot Hall of Famer and a legit power puncher). The gauze, tape and water mix doesn't create a cement like feeling, if it did someone would have reported it before Trinidad was even considered a HOF (perhaps someone like Oscar who feels robbed of the biggest fight of his life) , the hand wraps are always inspected before the fights and if Hopkins showed Trinidad respect for anything was his punching power, even after he had tasted it (although he didn't really get hit flush).
3) So Papa Trinidad was quoted saying that the tape added some power to Trinidad's punch... So what, if anything it shows he is an honest man who apparently was making an honest mistake about something that's illegal only in NY and Las Vegas, if it's so dangerous and powerful how come that way of wrapping is not banned period!!! how come Trinidad never paid any fine, was suspended or anything like that, if there is proof where are the consequences??? It's clear the biggest advantage Hopkins got from the hand wrap controversy is nothing but a mental edge (ask Freddie Roach)
4) Trinidad's black... Are you serious??? Trinidad is PUERTO RICAN, BORICUA!!!! Is the color of his skin black?? yes, so? why keep referring to Taínos when it is absolutely clear you don't know anything about Puerto Rico's history, culture or people, and if you do it's even worse because you'd be ignoring facts just to hate on people. Puerto Ricans are a beautiful mix of different races starting with Taínos, Spanish people and Africans. Later on during its history many more europeans traveled here and of course the Americans (which are rich in a mix of different cultures also) arrived and joined the party too which explains why we have a bigger variation in color than our neighbor islands. Trinidad is hispanic PERIOD! I just hope we don't need to create a chart explaining how genetics work.

In conclusion, Trinidad was a great fighter, he was not the smartest, the prettiest or the craftiest, but he sure did pack a pair of cojones the size of his punching power and a heart the size of his island. He pleased fans like few fighters today do and his warrior spirit is equaled by very few, including many all time greats who are perhaps even greater than him, so if anyone deserves to be blindly supported for what he has given to the sport of boxing and love no matter what it certainly should be a fighter like Trinidad who always gave it his all and fought the best available opposition for the pure entertainment of the fans, and not just for the well being of his wallet.

Wow, kind of early but thank you. I just really don't understand the hate towards Trinidad, he truly is the Pride of Puerto Rico and the only thing he is guilty for in my book is providing me with some of the best entertainment I could ever ask from any sport.

I don't understand the hate towards him either. He's a warrior, he's everything you want in a fighter. Yea he didn't do a whole lot of different things, but what he did he did very well. He took on all comers and NEVER took a step backwards even when he was taking a beating from Hopkins he kept coming. A true warrior in every sense of the word. He put his country/race on his back, he fought for us, not just for himself and not just for money. Tito was, is, and will always be my hero. If only there were more fighters like him.:good
