Mogens Palle offers Mikkel Kessler a fight with Glen Johnson in US. Kessler in on holiday and will look ino the offer when he returns from Thailand. The fight is going to ba at a catchweight between LHW and SMW.
Would be a good showcase for Kessler while he is waiting for one of the contenders at SMW to step up. Kessler has proved that he has no problem with walking into his opponents backyard, so could easily be made in Florida.
Would be a decent fight for Kessler and it might open a few eyes across the pond when he takes Johnson apart, which he would certainly do.
Here we go again. How many pounds will GJ have to lose? What weight do they think will leave him weakened? Anyone doubt this fight won't happen in the end and he'll be fighting Manfredo or some other bum at 68?
What are you talking about? Johnson has regularly weighed in at 172 or thereabouts (as he did for the Dawson fight). He doesn't weight drain at all to make 175.
Sure he does. He hasn't made '68 in eight years. He's 40. At 5'11" with his build/frame he could easily carry close to 200 if he wasn't boxing.
Hehe...I suggested this one as a go-er. Would be a very interesting fight for all parties. I back Kessler to do a convincing job, 8-4/9-3.
The offer comes fom Johnson - it's not Kessler requesting the fight. And Johnson has offered 170 as catchweight. So unless Johnson is foulish enough to offer a weight that will leave him drained - then the weight wouldn't make an excuse for Johnson... A perfect fight for Kessler - ricky but the reward is also good - and a good oppotunity to "measure" Kessler and Dawson. Kessler has a good style for Johnson - could be a great fight. If Kessler is serious about making it in the US - then he doesn't get a much better fight than this to do so in. Only Hopkins/Dawson would present a bigger reward (and of course Calzaghe, but that's very very unlikely) A desicive win against Johnson and Kessler-Dawson is a sure thing!
Thread starter must be lying, its so obvious he typed that post himself and he hasn't given any source!
But he is boxing, and he is also regularly weighing in 3lbs lighter than he needs to. Unless you think Johnson is deliberately 'weakening himself' for his light heavyweight matches, your argument that he is going to be weakened by fighting at an agreed catchweight is laughable. What's a catchweight going to be? It won't be lower than 170lbs or higher than 173. Ie. where Johnson already naturally weighs for a fight.
The point (if true) is that the suggested weight/fight comes from GJ. But the argument isn't laughable at all. Glen may believe that even weakened he can defeat Kessler and recognizes no one really wants him and the clock is about to strike midnight on his career. Desperate times require desperate measures. Hopefully, Kessler will pick up the glove. Just because GJ is willing to cut the weight doesn't mean he prefers to do so or is not making a sacrifice. If he can't get the LHW champs to fight him then he doesn't have many options.
