That was it. I knew he got a hometown something. Stoppage. From the rounds I saw the Fin was more than competitive in the fight and that bruise didn't look too bad.

It's interesting McCloskey has 3/8 stoppages by retirement. His clowning style disheartens opponents :yep

Would be interesting to see his next move.

I hate the whole 'easy first defence' thing - a first defence should always be a mandatory.

If they cant get it here then no point in arranging the fight. McCloskey would need a KO in Italy and, although I was impressed with his last performance, I didnt see any KO power.

Yep he can't punch **** as I mentioned in the intial post. That's my only concern about him. Everything else seems good to go at world class.

Seen McCloskey a few times on Rte he wiped the floor with Bazan and i cant recall the Wright fight. He is easily the best home grown talent at the moment. Im near sure Brian Peters promotes him. To do what he did to Lynes on short notice shows how talented he is i hope he carries on at a quicker pace. Hope he has the last laugh over the ring magazine after calling him the most protected fighter of 2008 or 2007 cant remember:patsch

Didnt know this... seems a little harsh! His resume isnt brilliant, but I wouldnt say it called for the accolade mentioned.

mccloskey has all the makings to be a very good fighter, how far he can, at this stage i don't really know, the way he disposed of lynes was more than impressive however what will happen against the top class lww when he steps up, will he be allowed to hang his chin out, he does it simply every fight and gets caught a few times.

the wright fight was one ugly inside fight, the worst of all the mccloskey fights that i have seen and i've seen most of them, he fought the wrong fight with the wrong tactics and looked a little lost at times, although his previous performance against bazan more than compensates for this.

he has alot of skills, speed agility reflexes and the ability to put punches together. when he wants to he can also fight 'traditionally', keep a high guard and this is something that as he steps up i'd like to see him using more of rather than simple counterpunching, he has a very good jab and good movement that can get him out of trouble and win rounds.he may not pack a hell of alot behind his punches but that's the reason why,he doesnt put his weight behind them, he counters steps in and out of trouble meaning rarely does he connect with full force.i'm sure he could do alot of damage at euro level and maybe in a year or so a fight with witter in ireland would be enormous, easily sell out the kings hall, 02 arena etc

at this stage i don't see him beating any of the top5 in the division but with time and effort he certainly can legitimatly challenge for a belt.

btw most protected fighter tag, ridiculous ... it's easily the man in my avatar, as much as it saddens me!

To be fair, it was good publicity for him to mentioned in the Ring magazine at all.

I was surprised when I saw that entry; unpleasantly surprised that they had called him the most protected, and yet pleasantly surprised that Ring knew that he existed in the first place.

Good bit of publicity but for all the wrong reasons'. Good to see your honest about Duddy as well :good he's very protected but gives 100% all the time. Theres' worse fighters than him check out tyrone brunson he broke a record of 1st round ko's by beating bums

Very fair analysis, I agree with most of it.

I've been more impressed with his defence though. I'd prefer him to keep the style he's got for the most part, as its confused a lot of guys including Lynes. No reason to change that unless he's forced to. He could have a more traditional fight style as a Plan B, agreed :good

I have got my eyes on McCloskey. Getting rid of Lynes was a public service though I can't go overboard as my opinion of Lynes is not the highest.

I hope McCloskey keeps improving as down the line if he does it creates interesting possibilities for us. Not sure he will ever get to fight Witter though as we have special plans for him this year in the WBC title eliminator.

    You rate McCloskey, Olu?

I'm sure that would be a good clash of styles if Olusegun fought him.
