Could be. Maybe it's just a matter of semantics. I hope so. Cotto is one of my favorites, and I do not want to ever see him get beat up like that again.

Most boxers whether they believe in clinching or not will instinctively
clinch when hurt ( unless you are Chapo Rosario )

There is absolutely no respect lost in that.

I thought after the last fight that Margo had his number but after watching it again Cotto needs to be a lot, lot smarter to win. If he gotta hold, then hold. He undoubtedly has the tools to win but he needs to box smart and forget the macho bull****.

Some of the respones I'm reading is absolute DOG**** to my eyes :bart

Cotto got to as high as he has because of his fighting style. The only time the man clinches is to survive from getting KD. Asking him to add something that is not within his instinctive fighting nature is crazy. That's like telling B-Hop to be an aggressive pressure fighter. Or Hatton to be a slick defensive fighter.

I see this statement as either one of two things...I think he might say he doesnt do it because he's a lil too proud to admit that he doesn't or is incapable of adding that aspect to his gameplan or simply a mind trick to Margo...by stating that he won't hold Margo will fight as if he won't...but come fight night and he does...Margo will have prepared for the wrong Cotto

The only real question I have to ask any of you is this...

What will it mean if Cotto beats him without clinching?
That's what is Cotto is shooting for...

What will it mean if Cotto KO's him without clinching?
I understand that's a big IF but if Pac can do it...so can Cotto.

I might sound like Cotto's version of PacDBest...but I believe he can do it

He'll get his ass kicked again by Margo if he fails to clinch. Clinching in their fight could have bought him time or broken up Margo's rhythm. Clinching is part of boxing as long as its not used excessively. He's letting his pride get in the way of basic boxing strategey and he'll pay in the long run for it.:-(

''If he would be fighting in America Hatton would be a clubfighter'',then he gets stopped by the clubfighter.
Paulie:''I'm gonna take the title from Cotto and be the marshall for the puertorican day parade''
Cotto:''I'm gonna beat him in june and send him back to the ballrooms he came from''.Malignaggi's next fight was in a ballroom.
The mask and the hair in the N'dou rematch. It goes on and on about him.

Saying you won't clinch against a guy who made you quit is idiotic. He should have admitted he used bad judgement in not clinching in their first fight and moved on. Nothing wrong with clinching as long as you don't hold no one would think any less of him of him as a fighter if he clinched Margo in their first fight, it would have been the right thing to do. Hell it might have won him the fight.

Yup. I don't understand what he's trying to prove here by saying this.:huhThere's nothing wrong with clinching unless you do it to the point that Ruiz does.
