Ok fantasy but say Ali Time Travelled to today in his 1967 peak how far would he go and when would he retire?

And would todays heavyweights prove to be to easy for the Greatest!

In my opinion the Greatest would have wiped the floor with the current opposition!!

He'd be number one but he isn't going to stay undefeated for 12-15 years and or never be troubled or anything.

Post Liston he was supremely confident, and the single greatest athlete the sport has every produced. I know everybody is going to scream Jones. Nothint wrong with that pick. But other fighters fighting between 160-175 run him close for speed and power. Who, weighing in at around 215, is anything like as fast, fluid as downright special as Ali? Nobody. He's got nobody close to him in a p4p sense (which should work both ways).

He was also still regarded as a little vulnerable. Whether that is fair or not is hard to say. Anyway or no, whilst Peter has no chance to reach him, and Vitali probably couldn't reach him with enough power to stop him with one shot, Wlad has that one punch power that may provide a puncher's chance.

But that's it. The best fighter in the division has a puncher's chance against him and that's all - so Ali dominates this crop with embarrassing ease. Not all ATG fighter's have his internal discipline, and he certainly would be able to get the work done for the generally low level of competition.

It would be a long reign, morbidly undifined by the great opponents he faced in his real career.

If a 67 Ali emerged in any era I believe hed dominate. You are talking about a concensus top 2 all time heavyweight at his absolute peak.

Not sure on that, he didnt relly dominate say the 1970's ete.

I sure some one in any era would have trouble Ali.

The 1900's I give Johnson and Jeff a good shot in 1900's fights to the finish.

The 20's had Dempsey, and I belive that would have been a fight to see.
The 30's and 40's Louis, I think Louis could nab a victory or 2 from Ali.

The 50's had Marciano which could go either way imo.

The 60's of couse Ali took over the reins of a past era from Patterson.
Ali had a hard time in the 70's.
In the 80's I think Holmes would have giving Ali problems.
The 90's. Not sure there. I think Ali may take that one, and of couse the 2000's. Perhaps Lewis would beat him.

Well, I would guess that Marciano & Louis could kiss bye bye to 49-0 & 25 defences if Ali fought today.

And Ali would likely retire with full health (no disrespect to the big Ukranian guys.)

    :good

He probably wouldn't score as many KO's, but then again today's big (and often fat) HW's would have a hard keeping up with his workrate. Ali usually thrived against the big HW's of his time, the ones who gave him trouble was medium-small HW's with high work rate.

I think we'd find that a 6'3", 215 pound fighter is still more than big enough to beat today's so-called giant heavyweights. Some guys will maybe give him a few problems, but he'd make a fool of most of them, in my opinion.
I wonder how much he'd earn in today's money. The figures could be staggering.

Honestly, currently at heavyweight the trend is heavy and durable. It doesn't match up well with the man who wielded the demon jab. He'd beat half the division with his left alone.

The Klitschko's are trouble, and would be competitive bouts (whereas Ali would definitely outclass Sam Peter, Valuev in every way) and Povetkin does as well as Chuvalo did.

I think Ali is mentally too strong for Wladimir, and would intimidate him. I would also pick Ali over Vitali, though I'd expect Ali to be stunned a few times.

It would not be a challenge for him. He would probably be the champion for as long as he wanted. These guys that are around today would not stand a chance. They might hit hard but that doesn´t matter if you can´t hit anything, he was to fast, to good and to good in any area. honestly, it would not be a contest. Todays HW´s division is very, very poor if we compare with other decades. In my opinion.

Yeah, the idea that '67 Ali would probably dominate a division surely shows how rubbish that division is!!:nut:patsch

I think Ali would be Champ today, its interesting that Ali at 6 3" and 215 is considered big enough to dominate todays crop, yet a David Haye at 6 3" and 220 has doubts against his chances ,of course Haye is no Ali but he probably punches appreciably harder than The Greatest.Ali had trouble with smaller fast types ,big lumbering fellas were beaten easier.
