If rocky had went for 50,and defended against floyd would he have lost by dec. Because i dont believe he wouldve been ko,d-but with floyds fast feet and hands could he have kept away from rockys (suzie q) right hand untill a dec. Was reached ,ithink in the end rock wouldve caught him but it would be a long time for rock to catch him i give it to rock 60/40 BUT I DID READ AT THE TIME OF ROCKYS RETIREMENT FLOYD AND CUS WERE AIMING FOR THE HEAVY TITLE I WONDER IF THEY THOUGHT FLOYD COULD TAKE THE ITALLION STALLION
Trust me, Marciano would've caught Patterson at some point and I think he would've destroyed him, cut him off, and stopped him between rnd 13-15.
No chance of all those wars catching up to a guy who retired in the first place due to serious back problems, right? Yeah man, guy could have steam rolled his way all the way to 110-0.
He'd still be undefeated today... and only a couple of years older than current prospect fighting for the H/W crown. Hard to see him being beaten, even at the age of 80... atsch
Whats forgotting is that in the 50's Patterson would just charge in. (Ingo, Liston, Pete ete) I dont see this going past the 5th round. It will be a great slugging match while it lasted. And this is the type of fight were Patterson's speed wont be much, because he be there to be hit also. Cus and Patterson were not aiming for a fight with Marciano though. Even Patterson said Cus did what he can to drive Patterson away from the Rock, until of couse he felt it Marciano was either shot or retire. Just look at the ranks, from Marciano's retirement, to Patterson jumping to number 2, out of no were.
Marciano was looked past prime against Moore, Patterson looked far better against the same fighter a year later. I'd take the young blood here, this is similar to the first Charles fight that a Prime Marciano nearly lost. Pattersons speed would be the difference, Marciano comes on down the stretch but Patterson had great stamina himself. I don't think Patterson would be as keen to rush in against Marciano, I think he'd respect him the way he respected Moore. Patterson UD in '56
Patterson at 21, would have been a bit too green against an aging but still dangerous Marciano. Floyd couldn't stand in there and trade with him, and he was far too suseptible to getting dropped as it was.
Agreed. A perfect example of time not matching up for the fighters in question. Prime for prime I'd favor Patterson.
Patterson?? Even prime for prime, I still dont see how Patterson would win this. Marciano's power was THAT great. And Patterson didnt have the best of chins. If say Ingo can knock Patterson down 7 times, than Marciano puts him out imo.
I dont think that Patterson would have been fight number 50. I think there would have been at least two other oponents first.
