I think he is not much more than a wrestler. He only fought one elite, prime fighter and looked foolish running into a check-hook.

That's just terrible. I already here the Brits crying foul again! IMO

Hatton is top ten p4p and gets criticized more than anyone else save Calzaghe. Hatton runs from no one and is always entertaining. He's a two division champ and has only lost to the top p4p guy. Not only that he has a fun personality as well. very likeable guy. I don't see why there is so much hate towards him. Has Hatton not put in a full effort in a fight? no. He lives hard between fights, but has he ever not gotten in tip top shape for a fight? no. He's fought the best p4p guy, has he ever ducked a fighter? no. Look the guy isn't perfect but don't let the perfect be the enemy of the very, very good.

btw Jeff M, why is it that all you do is make polls to criticize Hatton...your last poll was Could Hatton even beat Tim Bradley. Come on. Stop hating. 75 percent believe Hatton would win.

After all your bleating in the Calzaghe thread (to that Onion/Orion kid) dont you find the above somewhat stupid and hypocritical?

Hatton's the best current 140lb fighter and has been for some time. I dont think he's a world beater, far from in fact, he's quite limited to a degree, but he uses what he has and makes it work just as well as any other elite fighter at the top of their division does.

He showed balls fighting Mayweather outside his comfort zone considering most didn't give him a remote shot at winning (and rightly so). When has Mayweather or half of these other 'elite' fighters ever had to give up home advantage in a fight of that magnitude? He certainly conducted himself with more class than a lot of you fools could ever hope to have, hell even Mayweather after the fight showed more class than a lot of his glory hunting fans.

I really prefer open polls, anways, I don't think Hatton is overrated at all. Maybe by some fan boys, but all boxers have their own.

    hmmmm.... leading question, doncha think?

Hatton divides fans on the whole, so when his career is over, it'll probably seem he was overrated in some quarters and under in others.

I think he's had an excellent career and has been number one in his weight class for a while. I believe his best years were those leading up to the Tszyu fight, but that's impossible to prove as he never had the fights to show the talents I believe that he had. I would argue that he's somewhere 10-15 p4p.

I would argue that the Tszyu he beat while slightly past prime, was far from shot. However, the Tszyu of the late 90s, who was more athlete than boxer, while inferior to the more polished 2005 Tszyu, was stylistically a worse match-up for Hatton than the version he beat.

hatton also beat good comp in Malignaggi, Collazo (close, no robbery, whichever way you scored it), and ok opposition in Castillo and Urango.

It's not the greatest of CVs, but a close contest with Pac (win, lose or draw) and a victory over Bradley would make it very good and HoF worthy, imo.

Also to his advantage, in my eyes, is this: he brought the best out of Mayweather. In the last four rounds of their fight (possibly five), I thought PBF boxed as perfectly as anyone (bar perhaps Toney in some of the rounds vs Jirov) as anyone since Leonard. Perhaps Hatton allowed him to do that, but it's still history imo.

Because they are British. Yanks CANNOT stand it, they really can't. You ask any American (Check this site) for a 'top 100' and not one UK/Euro fighter would appear on it, seriously. You look at the fighters we have produced, and they treat the UK like a ****ing 3rd world country. The only thing that keeps me sane in this sport is the fact that European boxing is the palce to be now, unlike the states, where their best fighters are retiring, their amateur game has fallen apart, and they cant do more than 100K for a PPV anymore. Unlucky Kentucky.

I would say that Hatton is underrated in some quarters and Calzaghe is waaay overrated and far from a legend. Tw@t is the word I would use to describe Joe and his stupid bobble headed ******-man swagger.
