Could Floyd pull of a Hopkins like performance against Margarito?

There were people that thought that Hopkins would beat Pavlik, but few if any, (maybe one person on this site), thought that Hopkins would be the aggressor against Pavlik.

It turns out, that while Hopkins retained his, counter-punching slickness, he also took risks and was the aggressor for the majority of the fight, delievering a literally, jaw dropping ass whuppin on the young middleweight champion.

Writers, boxers, and almost everybody except those within Hopkins tight circle were astonished about not only the outcome, but the manner in which Hopkins won, especially considering his last outing with Calzaghe, in which many presumed would be the game plan against Pavlik, which involved plenty of clinching, and trying to slow the pace of the fight down.

This was a fight that no one thought possible from a 43 year old man, removed from his physical prime, and outside the weight class he dominated.

Now Margarito, while maybe more versatile offensively than Pavlik, (with much less power), is also tall, lanky, and there to be hit. Is it possible that Floyd could pull of that kind of performance against Margarito?

It would look spectacular, and if he managed to go to Margarito's body effectively, it is possible.

On the other hand, it would take great bravery and hardness that I think Floyd lacks.

Floyd is a good relatively defensive fighter, but he's no Bernard Hopkins, who's multi dimensional and a true great fighter.

Aside from which, it's unlikely that Floyd will ever climb in the ring with Margarito, who in his own right is a somewhat limited fighter, but has the size, chin and workrate to give Floyd problems if he were to fight.

Yes he could box circles around margarito like Hop did against Pav, but he wouldn't get much credit because he would be heavly favored to beat him anyway.

Different styles, Are you saying does Mayweather have the ability to outbox Margarito.
    Then
    This content is protected
He has the ability & style to do so.
    Can he?

Will Margarito become passive & Allow Mayweather to dictate the pace of the fight with potshot's? prob not... watching their recent fight's, Floyd would have to throw more punches per round than he has ever thrown in his "prime" to keep the pressure fighter off him.
It would not be easy, for either guy. But someone will get beat up. (even the decision winner)

Um, Hopkins is like 17 years older than Kelly.

Floyd is like a year older than Margaritto.

I don't get the connection and Margaritto's pressure is a lot more consistent than Pavlik's.

You totally underrate mayweather, he has many many dimensions to his game, compare the ways he beat coralles to hatton to judah and all where beaten in a different way

But no i don't think he could do what bernard did to pavlik to margarito. The diffrence is hopkins was physically bigger than pavlik, also he could hurt kelly, gain his respect. Mayweather cannot bring that aspect into a possible fight with margaritio. Margarito also is more relentless than pavlik with more workrate. PBF can definetly win though and will win i think but it would be more employing the stratergy that cotto did for the 1st 6 rounds of his fight with margo just better and for the 12

My point is Hopkins was seen as old and damaged goods that was ready to be knocked out by a young lion. Mayweather is not old, and no one with half a brain will predict him getting knocked out. So he wont receive the same praise as Hopkins for betting Pav.

I think you need to watch his fight with Carlos Hernandez to see his bravery and hardness.

Floyd could put on a great performance and outbox Margarito but somewhere in the later rounds he could run into trouble. Sometimes Margarito doesn't fight smart but instead just follows opponents around trying to break them down. It won't be easy for anyone, especially a shorter opponent, in the last few rounds to keep Margarito off.

    Good post.

As for your question, "no" in the sense that PBF won't be offensive minded and exchange like Hopkins did but "yes", in the sense that he will make Marg look silly from 1-12 and will be like a jack rabbit who Marg can't pin down and he'll constantly get countered. Wide UD for PBF.

    Best post right here. :good

Those who claim a win for Floyd would be EASY are just being fanboys. It's almost embarrassing seeing those who think Floyd wins with ease. :patsch

Actually I believe Shane Mosley will pull a B-hop on Margarito and win.
