    Preacher preys on middleweights

Kickboxing star Bruce ``Preacher’’ Macfie will be turning his hand to the professional boxing ranks again, this time he intends to go all the way,

On March 13, Preacher will take on Queensland middleweight champ Jason ``The Hitman’’ Hartman for the title.
Bck in 2002 Preacher had three pro fights for one win and two losses but hadn’t trained for boxing and took them on short notice.

This time he’s been training for boxing and has improved so much that back in October he beat Daniel dawson in a kickboxing fight.
    Everyone said he outboxed Dawson.

He is strong and at middleweight will be a real menace to our top ranked fighters.

Preacher intends to keep doing kickboxing and in 2009 he wants to make his mark on both codes.

I dont know anything about The Hitman, but he had over 100 am fights fight, with the Qld, he must be a decent boxer.

How do you see this fight going? I always like to see Muay Thai fighters take on the boxers...

    Go The Preacher!!!!! :bbb

Preacher boxes like a kickboxer. Technically these two sports are worlds apart, which too many people don't understand.

Preacher arm punches and stands very front on like a kickboxer. Whilts he may have "outboxed" Dawson in a kickboxing fight, its very different to doing so in boxing, and i can guarantee it wouldnt' happen. The stance is different, and you need to be cautious of different weapons. The way you throw all your punches is different also, particularly in the footwork.

The myth that kickboxers doing boxing for a prolonged period making them better with their hands in kickboxing is false also IMO.

The mechanics are entirely different. You don't use your hips anywhere near as much, especially on your hooks. Defensively it is completely different. Your stance and footwork is completely different. You don't have the range of punches, and you can't use angles because it leaves you far too open for kicks and knees, especially if you try to utilise head movement.

They are different sports and should be looked at accordingly.

The biggest similarity is the physical and mental strength and endurance both require, the dedictation to training etc etc

I really love watching Bruce as a kickboxer. However i think he lacks mental strength to a degree.

When he has faced his biggest tests, he seems to pull up short.

Especially in the contender, he really just looked like he wanted to survive.

Dissapointing, because he usually fights with so much energy and tenacity, i was expecting him to leave it all in the ring. Anyway, I always find his fight entertaining regardless. I don't think trying to compete in both sports at the same time will do him any favours though.

Try decapitated, was out before he hit the canvas, in his defense Dzarber (spelling) hits like a mule kicks.

Yeh, too right about the footwork and mechanics being different.
A couple of the most obvious things for mine are the fact that a muay thai fighters feet will be much more paralell than a boxers, the fact that a thai boxer will stand bolt upright to avoid the kicks and knees and also not use his knees and legs when throwing a punch I.E a boxer leaning slightly on his right knee before throwing a right cross to give it more power

Agree for all of that Jambo, including - "The myth that kickboxers doing boxing for a prolonged period making them better with their hands in kickboxing is false also."

Most of the guys currently going around who flirt between the two seem to go backwards, not forwards.

Weird, i would have thought if you practise anything enough you would improve.

Its not like your 100% always in your Muay Thai stance when your fighting.

But i agree you cant throw punches as good as you can when in a boxing stance.

As Jambo & Bushboy touched on above, footwork & balance, the foundation for ring movement and striking, is very different from one style to the other.

The difference between boxing and kickboxing is like tennis and ping pong.
