Eubank lost the 1st Watson fight in my mind. I'd hardly pick him over "anyone".... the Toney from the first McCallum fight would beat ANY version of Eubank. And Eubank had a strong domestic sense because he wanted NO parts of Toney, McCallum, or Nunn.
I'll say it again, we will never know. things like this are subjective it's just opinions. Of course the British fighters get underated like usual.
Toney at his best couldn't even put a slow dumb punchbag in Barkley away....yet he'd beat the **** out of & stop a prime Benn?? Put down the crack pipe people.
The "prime" Benn got an ass whuppin, and was then KO'd by a JAB from Micheal Watson. YOU put down the crack pipe. How is Benn gonna beat Toney exactly? Benn was a puncher, and Toney had one of the best chins of all time. That alone eliminates any chances Benn has. Whats Benn gonna do... outbox Toney?:rofl:rofl Benn comes at Toney throwing his bombs, Toney slips and counters Benn to death until either the ref is forced to stop it, or Benn's corner stops it.
Barkley had a better chin than Benn too. Barkley went 12 with Hearns, i cant see Benn going 12 with Hearns, especially when De Witt can put him down and Watson can KO him with jab. He went long with McClellan, because McClellan was not a polished fighter like Toney or Hearns.
Benn was a better boxer at SM. He had better stamina and Chin at SM that at Middle. He basicly punched himself out against watson and got put down by a jab. I wouldn't say Barkley had a better chin that Benn. ****, they went to war and Benn's chin held up better than his. I could see Benn KOing the same version of Hearns Barkley fought. As tragic as the McClellan fight was Benn deserves all the credit for winning that brutal affair.
Toney or Jones would've kicked the **** out of the Brits. The British can't **** with us. Didn't Hatton/Mayweather teach you anything?
Don't be so ignorant. Although I agree Jones and Toney may well have beaten the Brits its by no means a full gone conclusion.
Benn did not have a good chin regardless, he was put down by De Witt and hurt by Anthony Logan knocked out by Watson, hurt by Galvano, Eubank,Perez etc etc. Barkley was stopped on a 3 KD rule. He took lots of punishment against Hearns before he knocked Hearns out and Toney hit him with everything and could not even stagger him.
The throwback James Toney is a class above guys such as Nigel Benn and Eubank. Too bad the fights never happened cuz i would have loved to se those guys get schooled and busted up.
Why ? Toney is not a dead cert to beat anyone, because his conditioning was poor. And its not like he aint been beat by really average fighters before. Drake Thadazi whipped him clearly, a journeyman
And what did Joe Vs Hopkins Honeyghan V Curry Benn V Mclellan Lennox V everyone of your guys Teach youatsch
atsch If you think Benn was at his best against Watson you must be clueless. He hadn't even developed his defense yet. People seem to be under the illusion that Toney could simply slip & counter at will . Just when did he ever manage that other than against a shot Barkley? Benn was far too good to be simply "countered to death" against Toney. His own defense is being comically overlooked. Benn-Toney around 93-94 would probably be a close, cagey affair.
James Toney Classic was like a bigass box of chocolates- you never know what you were gonna get. If he fought Benn, Eubank, Watson, Calzaghe, and Collins, he probably would've went 3-2 against 'em, give or take a loss. Copout post, I know.
