bad example. pavlik was beaten outside of his division. although berto showed me that he has the heart to fight through adversity, i still feel collazo won the fight. but at this point, he gets beaten by all of the top dogs at 147. that strap around his waist means that he should no longer have the luxury of step up fights.
He has good fundamentals but he doesn't think and adjust in the ring. It was frustrating to watch him misread what was obvious to an observer and then fail to listen to his corner when they point out the reality of the situation. I hope that he learns from this.
Needs to work tremendously on infighting, not just punching on the inside, but also using his arms, elbows and shoulders to push a guy off that's crowding him, how to tie up an opponent trying to get to work with infighting, etc. Needs to learn how to work off the backfoot and using angles... there were far too many times when he was being smothered by Collazzo and should have stepped back or to the side to create angles for attack or backing away and getting out of the danger zone rather than just staying nose to nose with Collazzo. And it won't help if he learns to pay attention to what's going on a little more. He could beat on Collazzo's head until there was nothing left of his hand, and sometimes it looked like he would despite the fact that he was clearly hurting Collazzo every time he went to the body. And yet, after Berto would stop Collazzo in his tracks by going to the body, he'd switch right back to the head again. Bad tactics all around, and needs to work on his ring smarts.
That is a good point. But he was carelessly matched and his career took a major hit. All I'm saying is that there's no point throwing a young champ to the lions without a very good reason. Putting Berto in with Margarito this year would be a severe mismatch and we all know it. A year or two down the road it might make sense.
he needs to stay away from them and cotto, clottey and even cintron...his chin like a wet paper towel...just a matter of time before someone punchest through it..."2009 hype job nominee , andddrrrreeeee bbbbeeerrrrrrrrttooooo" lmao
Berto clearly slipped backwards but if he had room, it's CLEAR, he was going to get his footing back. But you being Puerto Rican, i wouldn't expect you to be unbiased.
San Rafael, The Wanderer, Boondocks -- great stuff, thanks. :good:good Same for everyone else who took time to comment.
