After his loss to Hatton, which he felt he was robbed in, he considered retiring. After tonite, he's definetely going to feel like he was robbed. He could consider moving up to the junior middle weight division, where he has fought before numerous times, but the top fighters in that division would be even tougher than Berto, plus he gives up size in that division. Honestly, he did put up a good performance tonite, but I think everyone will agree that he isn't on the same level as the top welterweights of today. He isn't a big draw, he's loss all 3 of his big fights, and now he's coming off a loss. Do you fans think he has a chance at getting a title shot sometime soon? After all, he is a good name to have on a fighters resume, and he does present a challenge to any fighter in welterweight division. But after the Mosley loss, he found it very hard to get back into the action for the chance to make a claim as one of the elite fighters in the division. it took him nearly two years after his loss lost to get a another title shot, on top of that it took two years to even get a fight against a notable fighter. He definetely has too much pride & is too good of a fighter to continue being a sparring partner for other elite fighters in the sport. The fact that the loss to Berto was a robbery in his and alot of others eyes is going to also have him really thinking about his future in the sport. If he thinks that he'll be on the outside looking inside for the next two years again, I don't know if he will continue to pursue boxing as a career. So my question to the followers and fans of Mr. Luis Collazo is what do you think the future holds for him? DISCUSS:
Coming back from Mosley was different then coming back from tonight though. He lost a damn shut out that night plus he hurt his hand. He proved once agian tonight hes a legitmate top 7-8 Welterweight and probablly deserves his 2nd Championship. I seriously doubt we see a Berto rematch I expect Collazo to fight his way back into contention for a title probablly agianst Joshua Clottey as noboddy else wants to fight that guy. If im Luis I come back with a winnable fight but not like the trash he fought previous to tonight maybe some on ESPN like a Cosme Rivera a former contender and durable guy who can still give him a somewhat tough fight then maybe get himself in an eliminator.
I think Clottey would definetely fight Collazo if there's nothing in the way to stop the fight from happening. In the meanwhile, Clottey will most likely make a defense against some weak mando & then after that, they can clash!
Same thing has happened in lots of other fights, but those fights didnt get rematches. Examples: Winky vs JT Dawson vs Johnson
I think if you look good or decent against an elite fighter, you get another contender trying to out do the job that guy did against the same man... I see him fighting another contender...if he wins...he'll get another title shot. Berto ain't gonna give him a title shot or a rematch...not unless his name is huge and Berto has changed dramatically. Cintron, Clottey, or Quintana would be his next opponents most likely. Possibly even Mayweather as a tune-up. If a guy like Stevie Forbes, who disappeared in the lime-light gets a shot all of a sudden against DLH...then goes on to fight Berto next... I'm sure Collazo will get a shot against someone else. He's fought Hatton, Mosley and truly beat Berto tonight...I think someone else will look to test him... Out of all of those guys I think Clottey or Judah will decide to take him on.
Louis Collazo will be a steppingstone and a tool for HBO as a good opponent with a name.... As long as Collazo can remain competitive in the ring, the network will use him for future fights.....:hey Ricardo Mayorga is already in that mode for HBO....... Mayo is suppose to get beat by Angulo in Feb..... Can Mayo spoil Angulo and HBO's plans????:huh MR.BILL
Only guys I see him fight next are Calros, Judah or one of his weak mandatories. Cintron cant fight for the WBC due to medical reasons.
lets face it there are not many other options for berto except to give a rematch cause he wont stand a chance against margo, cotto, williams, clottey so he'l hav to give collazo a rematch
Collazo was having some mental focus problems at different points in this fight. When he started walking Berto down in straight lines and not throwing any punches in the first few rounds, things seemed a little off. When he took to dropping his hands in the mid rounds, I thought it must have been because Berto was frustrating him. But then a few minutes later Collazo started dropping his hands again, and it was clear there seemed to be no apparent reason for it. When Collazo did fight, he fought like a reckless maniac, and punched himself out several times. The innactivity and overexertion cost him significantly. This is stuff he could have easily avoided. The people believe he won, but the fact is he did all sorts of stuff to sabotage himself in this fight. Collazo conciously or unconciously wanted this to be much harder than it was. Collazo has been public about long bouts with depression, and keeping alot of emotional anger. Perhaps his collective frustration is starting to cause him to unravel. The future is grim if this guy can't keep his **** together. Robbed or not, he just ****ed off a very big opportunity.
