    And correct your are, sir.

People forget REAL fast in boxing it seems. At the time Pavlik faced him Miranda was terrorizing boxing. Here's a couple quick facts:

    1. Pavlik was told beat Zertuche in a WBC eliminator, you'll be ranked # 1 WBC and you will fight Taylor.

    2. Miranda had been blasting down everybody in his path (take AA how you will, ok), HBO loved his story, so then Pavlik gets told well kid'o what we really meant was beat Edison Miranda in a 2nd WBC eliminator and then you can fight Taylor.

    3. Fight time! Every press conference consisted of Miranda screaming and **** about how he was gonna kick the **** out of Taylor, Taylor getting mad and arguing back while Pavlik just chilled, smiled, and knew what he had for them would be coming soon enough.

    4. On ESB, over 80% (I would say more like 95%, but don't have the old poll to back me) said Miranda was gonna kill Pavlik. I could count on one hand who the Pavlik fans were back then, myself included:D.

Then HBO does a 15 minute documentary on Miranda's life story, how he's such a beast, and all that. ..... Then it was like "Oh yeah, and Kelly Pavlik is here too" as he ran to the ring.

Well, sir, you know the rest, but one interesting fact on top of all this is they had Miranda ahead on the scorecards at the end of that one sided beat down, as they did in the first Taylor fight.

Which ever way you feel about Pavlik he took the long hard road to where he is, one loss makes no one a bust (unless he lost to Zelenoff, then you might be onto something), and he's beaten the odds and the establishment in a way that few could.:yep

agreed but at the same time it seems those same fans who rallied when pavlik ko'd miranda, taylor, and lockett automatically dismiss his loss against hopkins due to weight issues

I don't know about all the fans, but you know how it is in general. Mr. Hopkins had one of the worst performances of his career against Joe. This lead many to believe Mr. Hopkins has finally stayed too long. All these fans (and experts, journalist, etc..) now need an out, because of being SO SURE Pavlik was gonna dust the older man. In fact Bernard's previous performance was so bad that the EXPERTS made a young Champion with only 1 title defense, going up 2 weight classes a friggin 4-1 favorite.

Interesting article in this latest month's Ring Magazine, because there have been so many upsets this year, they decided to do a whole got damned 5 page articlle on why sometimes they get it wrong!

I am hard core Pavlik as it comes, check my post history if you like, and see where I ever said a) Pavlik will surely win, b)Pavlik lost because of weight.

    :yep

For me, neither. He might be some peoples hero, but I don't think anybody could say a middleweight champion is bust after one loss to a great fighter.

From an objective viewpoint he's a very good world class fighter. No more no less at the moment.

how many boxers acheive the heights that Kelly has acheived. Don't forget he was an underdog against Jerman Taylor. Pavlik was never expected to attain the status he has attained.

boxing Hero, no doubt. And I'm not his biggest fan.

Good post, shows again why you p4p one of ESB's best and I always take time to read/learn from your posting.

But don't forget my man, like I pointed out just above, he was in no WAY supposed to win against Miranda either. Pav was there to get the David Banks treatment on the undercard of Taylor to set up JT vs. Miranda.

Pavlik missed the memo. Remember back then those weekly statements sent out by Team Miranda calling Taylor chicken and **** like that? Before Pav rocked his ass Miranda was Rollin', but now everybody just acts like he's **** because he lost to Pavlik and AA.:yep

I don't see Pavlik losing unless he becomes damaged, but the point is how can one be remembered for a tenuous thing. An a sporting match {{["HAS"]}} that quality when otherwise they'ed be remembered as a God.:hi:I'm quoting boob_boom p. 2

Actually Pavlik was regarded as one of the top prospects going into 06 and a lot of people already saw him as the future of the division. Then once he beat Miranda his stock SKYROCKETED into who he is today. Arum and alot of the boxing writers kept saying he was the best kept secret in boxing and soon would be champ.

There are some other points about the Miranda fight that I think are worth mentioning.

    1) KP takes a lot of heat for getting hit so much in that fight. However, he was very clear about his fight plan. He said Miranda was very wild and a dangerous puncher who throws a lot of punches from weird angles. He clearly stated that we would not see him bouncing around up on his toes. His plan was very simple; come in flat footed, back him up, and knock him out. Kelly did exactly what he said he would do.

    2) This fight plan was so audacious that Lampley had to stifle a laugh when KP told him what it was.

    3) Kelly was hand picked to make Miranda look good.

    4) The internet myth says Pav never took any shots from Edison while Edison was coming forward, and therefore never felt Miranda's full power. Watch what happens at around 2:30 of this highlight reel.
