All the posters on here who think this fight is just a "learning experience" for Berto dont realize. Watchu see is what you get from Berto. His strengths are he has fast hands, decent, but not great power, and heart. But his defense is ****, and always will be... and his chin is dodgy. Those two factors alone call for disaster to come his way once he faces a top guy who can crack.

So those of you who say he's not ready for Cotto, and Marg "yet"... more like he never will be.

He's just not an elite calibre fighter. He's a good fighter, nothing more.

If he wants to improve he needs a new trainer, Floyd Sr. for example.

Do you seriously expect to be taken seriously if you think that he'll never improve? Do you not think defense can be worked on?

He is young enough to improve, but he almost reminds me of a young Fernando Vargas he just has that toughness that is going to get his ass handed to him sooner or later. he does have the skills in terms of speed and power, but the foot work isnt there, Berto needs to add some good footwork to his game and he will be alright, but I just dont see it.

This is just a terrible example of the level this board often flounders on. :-(

Berto cannot improve? WTF kind of nonsense is that? Berto's a young exciting fighter who's flaws will at timjes make his fights more entertaining for fans.

So **** off and go back to only rooting for champs...

what i saw was a rather inexperienced fighter who does not use his head, or cannot shift gears very quickly. he has speed, a good chin, a great workrate, and can fight both on the inside and outside. what he seems to lack is adaptation in the fight, and is still not great at picking his key shots (end of round 11???????).

So it seems that his gameplan is really what needs to be worked on.
A good coach can definitely improve this in a fighter, so i disagree with Xplosive.

Floyd Sr. would be perfect IMO. Or James Toney, if he ever decides to become a trainer :D

He's a titleholder. But I guess I meant rooting for established champs, like bandwagoners often do.
