De la Hoya- would he be considered an ATG if he had retired after Mayorga?

Maybe the goldenboy was never ATG material

He is an ATG even without the Mayorga and Vargas fights.

He is an all-time great for the fact that he never ducked anybody and went after the toughest challenges he could find, even though he lost just about every mega-fight he was in.

He is regardless. Losing to Floyd Mayweather Jr. in a competitive fight and to Pacquiao while desperately weight drained hardly do him much damage.

Shouldnt judge a man to harshly on losses past his prime...His wins are what you should be looking at and he has a ton of quality ones.

I'd say he's an ATG yeah, but he's way below the likes of Jones, Hopkins and Toney. He's above Calslappy though.

I think that in order to silence most that think he isn't, he should move back up to 154 for a couple of more fights, in which he'd hafta defeat a coupla top 10 fighters, or at least ones that could arguably be ranked.

Id have him well above Toney in an alltime sense to be honest. James was to inconsistent and he pretty much soured all his heavyweight achievements with his steroid abuse.

That's an argument that could go on and on.....I'd pick Toney above Oscar but it's a close thing for sure. I just think Toney wins on skills, chin and in his achievements at differing weights but I can see the other side of the argument too.

He was on at the end of bad decisions as well. Funny hes always remembered as getting the nod against Quartey and Sturm yet not quite as much against Tito and Mosley 2. Its just too much hate. The man is the mackdaddy. If you include his "influence" to the game as a fighter. Hed be top 10 all time

He maybe deserved the nod against Tito (big maybe) but definately not against Sturm and Mosley 2. Top 10 all time? No ****ing chance.
