Prime Pinklon Thomas vs Wladmir Klitschko

This would be an interesting match. W. Klit is one of the best offensive fighter ever. Thomas in his prime was as good as any heavyweight. Who would win a fight between the two?

 

I cant really recall the last time he fought offensively or showed anything other then a conservative jab, hug and occasional right hand approach.

He has his share of wins where he looked devastating and yes even finished thinks with his left but I couldnt really call him an offensive fighter, let alone on the best of all time.

Explain that and I might be swayed.

 

It's an exageration. Before the first Brewster fight, he was an amazing offensive fighter. Afterwards, he was a shell of his former self. I think Thomas would have an easier go with Wlad now that he would have had earlier in his career, but I think Pinky was an overall better fighter than Wlad and would have ko'd him in 7-8 rounds.

I give Pinky a real chance in this one.The height would come into it a little,but Thomas would be quicker and had better skills.I would bet on pinky on points.

 

Thomas had the Jab but not enough for Vlad, the power of Vlad and the jab + size difference...Vlad tko8th

 

I'm giving Klitschko the edge here. Thomas's prime was short, dicey and not consisting of much. Wlad at least has the claim of hanging around the top of his division for several years, rebounding from more than one KO loss, and keeping himself in better condition. I don't even know what the best version of Pinklon Thomas was, truthfully.

No, he really is not even close to being as good as any heavyweight.

A prime Wlad easily and emphatically takes him out 7 or 8 rounds.

Jesus Christ, the rosy view of the past must be infecting some in these parts.

 

Thomas held those hands to low & whenever he did jab, he brought it back to his waist and then picked it up to its proper position. That leaves a big window against certain styles. He was hardly nimble on his feet either and had minimal upper body movement so I don't see a Pinklon Thomas being effective against the real tall accurate jabber types like a Wlad or Lewis.

 

I think Wlad TKO's Thomas. Wlad's toughest match up is vs an agressive power punching swarmer. Thomas was much smaller and a boxer type. Wlad eats that style up.

Thomas was something of a one handed fighter. His left was very good, his right very average.

 

Tell that to Weaver, whom he knocked out with a single right hand. Weaver always had a weak jaw, but still.



I think the difference here is consistency. Thomas had a great jab, but always got lazy with it...... even during his prime, he let Weaver come back just by doing little, when it appeared he was in complete control. Wlad's jab is very consistent and has won him many fights... and this one would be no exception.

 

I have to start by disagreeing with both your statements.
Wlad is a cautious gunshy jabber who rarely leads only commiting himself to the offensive when his opponent is not firing back.Thomas had a good jab and a hard right ,despite what Mendoza avers,he could stop you with it if it landed ,the problem with Pinky was he seldom threw it ,his work rate was very low, and his feet were very slow.
As Pinklon would not pressure Wlad enough to dominate the exchanges the Ukrainian would take an easy decision,Thomas had a good chin ,so he sees the fight out.This would be a bore snore ,but then ,many of both of their fights were.To desribe Thomas as as good as any heavyweight is the height of hyperbole by the way.

 

To a certain extent your right. However Wlad's not exactly the most formidable of heavy's either.

 

Wlad would win this match, but he is simply not 'one of best offensive fighters ever'.

Indeed his lack of creativity and paranoia over his chin in recent years, have led to the safety first performances and general fan boredom with the division.

Do not get me wrong, the first priority in a boxing fight is to win, pretty much no matter what. But if you want to be one of the best offensive fighter ever you have to do a hell of a lot more than Wlad has done.

Until Wlad opens up and shows some creativity and trusts his own chin, he will be a very solid fighter, who wins far, far more than loses, but he will not go down in history as anything special.
