For the Rahman II fight. Why? Nobody knows for sure. But, Roach made some comments that it might be time for James to hang up the gloves. According to Toney, they split on good terms.
Roach doesn't feel that Toney should keep fighting hence Roach does not want to be responsible for any damage that might happen to Toney.
My guess would be that Roach is tired of Toney not getting into a healthy physical state, his laziness for training aside from sparring.
Going into the Pavlik fight Roach said something along the lines that he wouldn't train B-Hop because he went to the wrong corner like 4 times in the Calzaghe fight and thats a sign that he should hang them up. I think he also said that he was scared for Bernard also because Kelly was such a big puncher. B-Hop certainly proved him wrong though!
Ohh, yes, thanks. I was thinking he meant comments by Toney regarding Hopkins. I always find it interesting hearing the top guys talk about each other.
I heard Roach broke it off with Toney. Apparently Freddy caught Toney doctoring his own gloves for sparing sessions. It is one of the lowest things that you can do in the sport, especially for a sparing session. Word has it he caught Toney doing his own hand wraps and stuffing Twinkies in the gloves for a snack during one of the many clinches he instigated during sparing.
roach had just bought shares in an all you can eat resteraunt but unbeknown to him, toney visited it every night for a month and the shop went into liquidation.
