After watching this fight a few times I still think the referees count was way too fast. Your thoughts ?

It was about right, no count is relly perfect though. Very rearly does one have a perfect count. but Walcott knew the numbers, he has only his self to blame for that imo.

I belive they even did a stop watch on some versions, and the count was pretty close to the stop watch.

I doubt it would have made a difference to the outcome of the fight but to me it seemed a little fast. I still think Walcott was preoccupied with thoughts of the punch that ended the first fight when they fought again and maybe that was why he stayed down as long as he did.

I think the ref could have had the Dempsey Tunney long count, and Walcott would have still stay down. He didnt even try imo. He just stay there, getting his pay check, than made a fuss when he got counted out. Either way, Walcott is to blame, and not the ref.

Dont blame Walcott, I belive he didnt want to go thown that hell again with Marciano. The books may say Walcott was far far far ahead on the score cards, and Marciano didnt even touch Walcott until round 13. But the fact is, Marciano and Walcott beat the hell out of each other for 12 and a half rounds. First it was Walcott, than Marciano, than Walcott. Both landed heavy blows, both got cut, bruise and hurt, and both look like they got maul by fights end. Hell Walcott's eye was close. Marciano landed plenty of hard leather on Walcott that first time.

Either way one things for sure, Walcott had tasted the power of Marciano and he didnt like it.

This fight was such a let down after how good the first one was.

Walcott "claimed " he blacked out in the middle of the count and thats why he got up convinced he was still "In time".There was a similar thread recently about this where I quoted AJ LIebling's ringside report on the fight. I'm inclined to go along with your explanation ,I don't think Walcott wanted to go through that again.

So did you read the boxing books that mention the fight, and claim Walcott had a easy time with Marciano. Wonder were that rumor came from, because the fight film CLEARLY shows it going back and forth and forth and back.

Walcott was in front at the time of the ko,but though he said he could not remember a fight when he felt better or was more confident coming up to the fateful round ,he took his share of punches in a tough fight ,and lets remember he was 37 for that fight and 38 in the second one.

Walcott opted not to get up. Shades of Holyfield vs Douglas.

It was bull****, by Walcott sure took his sweet-ass time getting to his feet......... Walcott was more so stunned rather than parked...... Had I been ringside back in '53, I would've been pissed........ Peace......

Still, Liston's 1965 stunt against Ali up in Maine takes the cake for a "Stink / Tank" job.....

The crowd was yelling let em fight, let em fight. What do you think the ref should have done?? Say Walcott got up in time?? Or what?

I would've allowed the fight to go forth at the time.... Joe Walcott did get up.... Joe wasn't fully erect at the count of 10, but he had risen.... I think the ref should've brushed off Joe Walcott's gloves and allowed the fight to continue.... But Rocky Marciano was on fire in 1953, while Walcott was really looking for a retirement check / payday.... Either way, Walcott was gonna get KO'd in that fight....
