Beat Armstrong, lost to Freddie Red, and was a dirty fighter. I have no ideal were I rank him, Perhaps around 15?? Perhaps. Dont think he cracks the top ten imo.

Can't really have him outside a sane top 15 in my opinion.

No, but he needed a rest. His eyes had suffered serious injuries in recent fights but he never stayed inactive long enough to allow them to heal. In both title fights with Fritzie, his eyes swelled/cut up badly and that was the difference.

In their third fight, Armstrong actually was at his last days, but his eyes were no longer a problem and he whupped Zivic decisively.

Armstrong fought for another 4 years after losing back to back to Zivic. He did beat Zivic a year or two after losing those two fights. I'd say he wasnt at his peak though when he lost those two fights.

Pretty much...Frtiz did beat a host of contenders though, including Burley and Davis.

Maybe he isnt quite top10 but I wouldnt be brave enough to have him to far outside of it.

His resume is phenomenal. Not sure where to place him though, what with his inconsistent performance and multitude of losses.

Lower end of the top 20.

He's got the two victories over Armstrong, plus he's also got victories over the likes of Eddie Booker, Charley Burley, Jake LaMotta, Kid Azteca, Cochrane in a return among others. Aquitted himself well in many of the fights that he lost, so even though he was inconsistant you have to rank him as being among the better welterweights in history...And a fighter who could likely have stayed with all but the very best at 147lbs.

Not that high at WW. In his own time rates below Burley, Robinson, Williams and Armstrong for me

Would also rank the following over him at the weight (in no order) Leonard, Hearns, Duran, Tito, DLH, Napoles, Griffith, Walker, Mayweather, Mosley, Whitaker, Curry, Galivan, Basilio, Walcott. Then there are the likes of Cuevas/Honeyghan/Quartey/Forrest/Benitez that would probably beat him and you may want above him

Does well to break the top20

Definitely among the top 20 welterweights of all-time. Probably top 15. A very clever, rough and tough fighter. He beat some very good fighters who were middleweights too.

His great/very good wins compensates somewhat his losses but even so I can“t rate him too high because he lost to many unknown guys....definitely at his best would be a tough fight against anyone !

He definitely looks good on film.....with a nice jab, and we all know how smart he was (dirty :yep:).

Hard to rank for reasons already stated. But H2H I pick him to beat many welterweight greats who get higher ranking than he based upon achievement.

From top of my head i'd say top twenty but i've not gone into the required detail to be confident with my pick.
