Not really. If the statistic is true that 1.5 million viewers watched Calzaghe V Hopkins, then thats a lot of bucks on a monthly scale as it costs £9.99 - £14.95 to subscribe to Setanta. To be fair, I bought the box on the premise it was the 'home of boxing', well, they have had one world title fight in 1 month, not really on to be honest. You get bombarded with UFC repeats and replays of 3rd rate football games. Why cant I watch the Pac V JMM fights on a Sunday afternoon? The Yanks get good coverage.....
Swings and roundabouts mate. I am offended by that word, and vice vera if I caled a black man a sootie, he would be offended. Cant have it one way.
It got a lot of viewers/subcribers because it was a Calzaghe fight. Unfortunately, quite a number of people only sign specifically for such a fight and then cancel. It may actually be feasible for setanta to get all the fights listed, thats why I asked the question how much does it roughly cost to air a fight. As Kosaros pointed out, its probably works out cheaper if setanta did a long term deal with promoters, like the ones they have with Hayemaker, Top Rank and Sauerland. But how much must have these deals cost setanta and what is their budget?
in what ways as a boxer and a fan i cannot see how anyone can prefer domestic fights, i know we can relate more to the venues and the atmosphere but the big cards are the highest level of our sport its natural to enjoy them more would you prefer to watch man utd v real madrid or barnsley v camb utd :good
if its a scottish boxer in fight against and english fighter etc i feel more from it that two yanks or mexican;s etc.im not saying i dont like the bogger fights i just look forward more to domestic,i know its warped logic :yep for example mate im looking forward to applby/lindsay more than mosley/margiarota .
ok so certain domestic fights take your favour especially scotland v england, this is fair enough when an irish fighter is fighting an english one its huge for me too but i look forward to them for different reasons, more from a nationalistic point of view rather than a boxer or fans point of view
I agree if theres a fighter from round this way I enjoy them more, you get that football feel where your supporting one lad. But with other big fights I sit back and just enjoy the quality of the fight, if that makes sense.
It got a lot of viewers/subcribers because it was a Calzaghe fight. Unfortunately, quite a number of people only sign specifically for such a fight and then cancel. Impossible mate. You have to sign for a minimum 3 month contract, you cant just pay for one fight, it does not work like that. I agree, that watching domestic fights is exciteable, but take his weekends boxing as an example. Chris Edwards and Wayne Bloy are fighting on Sky tonight for the commonwealth tiitle, but 24 hours later on Setanta, you have a wicked European crusierweright fight, then Shane Mosley V Antonio Margarito at 3am, you dont get it much better than that. I know which fights I am looking forward too.
Of course you can't just pay for one fight, the point I was making was that people will cancel when they can.
