Saw Mick last night, such a good lad... One or two people, who know the sport a lot better then me fancy him to be a lot more competitive then the generally held 'he's getting a hiding' view. I think he is too susceptable defensively to hooks to make an impression but he may be mobile and clever enough to get through the 12.

 

WOW slept through my alarm and just watched it now......

 

What a performance from Shane. I'd been hoping for it all week and he really turned back the years. Did Margo really have plaster in his hands? All my respect for him will have gone if that's true.

 

I picked this one wrong, but I don't care because it was such a great fight. What a performance from Mosley.

 

I went for Margo by stoppage on the predictions league......

I think I predicted something like this: "I fear for Shane in this fight; the guy takes a punch too well; I can see Margarito walking him down and beating the living **** out of him, with Shane's corner throwing in the towel late on to save their fighter."

If I reverse the fighters names it would actually have been pretty spot on.

 

I suppose with good reason.

Margarito had destroyed Cotto, who defeated Shane - who then went life and death with a shot to **** Mayorga, who ought to have been softened up by the savage beatings he received from DLH and Trinidad.....

His gameplan was very intelligent, subtly smothering Margo's work on the inside, stopping him throwing 100 shots a round - something Margo admitted himself post fight.

I don't get all the **** on GF about his chin being less than stellar..... most fighters would have been carried out on a stretcher after about 4, eating the leather that he was.

 

at work had 4 hours sleep, am fooked now but that was awesome! his chin should not be questioned how the **** margarito stayed up til he did baffles me, the guys is a beast and can take some punishment. but hat off to shane he was quality. how much credit should go naseem richardson, as the gameplan was perfect

where does this rank in amongst ssm best wins/performances?

 

Whats all this talk over in the GF about Margarito having "loaded gloves"?

Can anyone fill me in? I just watched the fight and then went to bed. I didn't watch any of the stuff after - what did I miss?

Rumours of plaster of paris - it might just be chalk or something else.

For me, they ought to check wraps post fight as well.

Yeah, shocking stuff. Also makes you wonder whether his gloves were loaded against Cotto and other previous fights.

 

To be honest that adds up.

It does not make sense that Margarito has been punching hard. He can't punch correctly. His punch technique is about as good as Calzaghe's except they have no speed. His punches had absolutely no effect on Mosley last night as they have been.

 

I think we need to hold off judgement on the hand wraps until we hear something definitive. Unfortunatley, if its true, it casts a big shadow over the most successful part of Margo's career and basically shoots his credibility to pieces.

I mean lets say it is true. Some people will assume he did this every fight and got away with it up until now. I think thats bull**** myself because there is no way you would get away with it every fight. But you still wouldn't know which fights he had used it and which fights he hadn't.

Anyway, if it was something that hardens into plaster paris then he needs a lifetime ban. You could easily enough kill someone with that kind of carry on. Especially if you are of the quality of Margo. (his actual quality may be overestimated if he has been cheating for years but he would have been handy enough either way)

For me the whole thing puts a big ****ing downer on a spectacular fight. And while I know I should be basking in Mosleys spectacular and brilliant display the cynical part of me wonders if a 37 year old who hasn't looked as good in almost 8 years (or maybe ever) could really have been that sharp on his own. Especially when said 37 year old has admitted to taking EPO before (that 'I took it but I didn't know it was a banned substance' bollocks doesn't fly with me. he was a grown man and he's nobodies fool so I don't believe that for a second).

Should have been a great night for the sport but it has left me feeling more than a little deflated
