Is it just me or does anybody else struggle to be interested in German boxing? Don't now if it's the ultra reserved fans, the fighters I've never heard of, some kind of prejudice inspired by all the home town judges or what? but it leaves me thinking why the hell did Setanta pay good money for this? Like I say, maybe it's just me...
Fighters include Abraham, Povetkin and Huck. So it interests me just with Abraham - all other fighters are a bonus.
Yeah, I'll give you Abraham, but Huck? Please! Not seen Povetkin so can't comment, but the photo with the tiger or whatever it was doesn't bode well. Camp like two tents! The guy De La Hoya fought looked good. ****, what was his name. Mario something or other... Marco Thingamajig... Nah, can;t remember. Now I would like to see him against Abraham though. Maybe it would help if they fought outside Germany a little more. It just reminds me if the old Benn Eubanks days of British boxing where our guiys annexed the titles and acted like the US and it's fighter's didn't exist. |For all you can say about the yanks at least they take on all comers, as do our guyd these days, but that's probably a lot to do with taking the promoters out the equation.
abraham is beginning to branch out into America, well he did for his second fight against Miranda. Huck and Povetkin may not be great, but they both could be heading to world title fights which could include some exciting fighters.
Fair comment mate. Probably is just me then. Abraham is exciting though I must say. Love to see him in with Pavlik. Now that's a fight, no?
Totally agree, its like the darts that are on bbc, whilst british/american/mexican etc. crowds are the darts on skysports.
Huck ??? The likes of Enzo would literally knock this guy into next year. I have been watching german boxing for a while (a lot longer than it has been on sultana) and Huck has never impressed me. Abraham can fire hot and cold. Elcock made him look like a complete nob before he ran out of steam.
i have watched german boxing since i got my first sat dish in 1987. got to watch the whole of darius michaelzweski`s career and what an enjoyable fighter he was to watch. similar i have watched the whole of povetkin/vlad/vitali`s career`s. what american boxing is on at 9pm on a saturday night in the uk ? if you miss american fights , get a trading partner on esb and swap american fights for the german and uk ones you get. problem solved.
I agree the atmosphere is very reserved to say the least. The fact is though (especially on the HW scene) Germany is becoming 1 of if not THE place to be.
yeh unless setanta got a really really really cheap deal with them its a waste of money. i would of rather they got a smaller US promoter on board like DiBella or did a deal with ESPN to show there friday night cards. I reckon next year they will have another UK promoter like Maloney along with Hayemaker. the only fighter they have im intrested in is Abraham and he just fights cans. and in 12 months time if steve bucne is still telling us that "boxing is big business in germany" il be a bit bored.
espn shows are all shown in the uk channel 5 tonight at 1 am its on delay but it will be a espn card from the last 2 weeks.
I'm in agreement with Sean - Sauerland promotions always throw up some good fights, plus Setanta needed to show more boxing at a reasonable hour, its all very well having US fights but I can't be arsed staying up/getting up at 3am to watch them. Props to Setanta for getting them on board, so what if the crowd aren't very lively its what happens in the ring that matters.
