No way would have Calzaghe beaten this guy

He already has.....in the same humiliating way that Roy did to many of his opponents.

jones was an exceptional talent, but calzaghe IMO would have given him a good fight.

mccallum was a light middle fighting at 40 plus there at light heavy
vinny paz lost to greg haugen at lightweight and had just had a broken neck beforehand
the aussie who he hit with his hands behind his back is who david haye ko`d in 1 of his very first fights
toney could not make weight easily and had no legs

and roy even then was still a low workrate potshot fighter.

 

Nah..the man Calzaghe beat was called Ray Jones, absolutely no relation to the man in the vid. :deal

Nobody knows for sure. You can debate it all day but nobody can say 100% that Jones beats Calzaghe prime for prime that's just ignorant.

The one sure thing is that he would have given Jones his toughest fight no doubt about that.

It would have been a great contest.

Man, I forgot how much of a ***** Jones could be despite his incredible talent.

I agree that Joe would've lost to RJJ, but there are many reasons why it couldn't happen and Calzaghes lack of status due to fighters like Hopkins and Ottke avoiding him back in the day does help to explain it.

 

Calzaghe's lack of status due to never fighting outside Europe, and never fighting at light heavyweight... help to explain it a little better.

 

Bit hard when people won't fight you (Hopkins and Ottke) and I can provide evidence of that....or are you the type of person that holds Lennox Lewis to account for Riddick Bowe not facing him?

Why would Hopkins move up a division to fight a guy who, in your words, had a "lack of status"?

Ottke was happy defending in Germany, Calzaghe was happy defending in Britain. Neither did anything to make a fight happen.

Lewis fought virtually everyone, I don't blame him for anything.

 

I've given up arguing with the Calzaghe fanboys that think an undisputed champion from the division below should move up to fight some obscure holder of a minor belt in a foreign land. The same man who wouldn't go to America to fight the undisputed champ from the division above him or even the long term holder of a minor belt who fought out of Germany in the division above. Also the same man unprepared to give up his minor belt to become mandatory with the IBF, the belt Ottke held.

 

I wouldn't have held that position if Hopkins hadn't agreed to the fight before pulling out and fighting far inferior competition for a few years in order to wait for OLDH....

I've argued on this issue many times and even your good self has agreed largely with me on it. Calzaghe is certainly not blameless, but let us not act as though he was wholly to blame because he definetly was not. His fights in the past few years with Lacy, Kessler and Hopkins do indicate that he is willing to fight the best.
