Will the media recognise Ricky Hatton as the P4P#1 should he defeat Pac?

I'm sure you've all heard Ricky Hatton assert that he's 'fighting for the P4P Title for the second time' due to the fact that he's fighting the widely regarded P4P#1 Manny Pacquiao.

Now, as far I'm aware the 'P4P#1 status' is not some sort of transferable Title otherwise we'd have had Tarver as number 1 when he beat Jones and so on and so forth. However, Ricky Hatton has continually repeated this and seems to genuinely believe he will be P4P#1 should he beat Manny Pacquiao.

My question is, will the media follow suit? The tabloids etc in Britain, the sports pages in the U.S....will they begin referring to Hatton as the best pound for pound fighter in the World?

Will magazines such as the Ring recognise him as this?

More importantly, will we as boxing fans recognise him? (Personally I think he would be elevated to the top 3)...

    Your thoughts would be appreciated.

i would probably put him at three but i would be surprised if some would put him at #1(the brits would for sure).

but it wont happen cause he will not beat Pac.

So he is delusional then in thinking that ;) I agree.

However, I must say I wouldn't be surprised if certain media outlets especially here in the UK, began referring to him as it due to him constantly repeating that he's fighting for the P4P 'Title'.

depends on method of victory of course, a first round KO would elevate him near enough to P4P #1! that will not happen of course, and he definitely wont be P4P #1 with a win!he will jump ahead of hopkins and mosley into the top 4 for sure but whether you knock calzaghe and marquez is a tough question, for me not yet!another good win and yes!

    so P4P# 4

It will be a huge boost for his P4P status but not #1. Although the English press will have him as the best fighter in the world if he beats Pac, along with all the "boxing" hatton fans. One rub for living in England. Like all the closet football fans when the world cup is on, Bull****

Probably Sky will start referring to him as p4p#1 but depending on other results and how well he beats Pacman(if he does of course) I would have him around 4/5.

I think so... i've seen some of his interviews and he talked about the P4P rating as if it was a title that can be won.

Yes, that's what I think might happen. Will make conversations with casual followers even more irritating.

I think he would have a decent shout for top 3 should be beat Pacquaio, it really would be a win of epic proportions considering what he did to DLH.
