    Agree to disagree.

I can see how he can be considered overrated by some because he almost always got what he wanted in terms of the contract. Monzon usually got to choose the referee and location of his fights.

I disagree because there's nobody else that I've seen who knew how to tie-up and nullify the opponents arms as good as Monzon. John Ruiz makes feeble attempts at trying to use Monzon's style, leaning more towards awful and pathetic.

This would be a very competive bout and that I don't see Roy Jones winning decisively. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if Monzon frustrates Jones all night long, landing the jab and straight right combos while tying Jones up coming in.

A close decision that could go either way.

Roy Jones, while having more natural gifts, did not have Carlos Monzon's ring generalship, or ring intelligence, if you will. In addition, he was never a 15 round fighter, and didn't have the chin Monzon had. It would be like a python finally catching the mongoose, as in the championship rounds of 13 thru 15 Monzon would catch Jones with the right, and hurt him, winning a tko in one of those rounds.

Roy an atg, granted but...the 2 to 1 posts here that say he has Carlos for lunch for the most part? :patsch

IMO a very competitive fight with Carlos copping a decision (or inside schedule late)

I always wanted Monzon to lose and thought a variety of styles might be able to beat him...big banger? slick boxer?...boxer/puncher?...ALL fell short, the guy was a machine and worthy of his all-time kudos...

To me, matching Rodrigo Valdez up against various MW's thruout history (including Roy) is a much more interesting what-if...

    I agree with Grant.

I remember the Roy Jones of 1992. He was so remarkable that even with all of monzon's great feats, the Roy would still take this fight with in and out movement, and flurries too quick to ward off. Monzon would not find the solution to this type of attack. Long arms and smarts not enough to beat Roy.
