One interesting point Houston makes is that in light of the controversy in the Bute match: if anyone gets any breaks on Friday it will likely be Urango

I heard they just reduced TFFP's post count by the number of posts he's made speaking tripe about Hatton.

    What's that around 11,000...

    :yep

Urango has slow feet, balance problems, fights flatfooted, needs to be set to punch, and often doesn't move in with the jab to get inside.. instead he just makes his way inside with his physical strength/presence and chin. That's why he's had so many problems with quick outside boxers who like to move a lot. I wouldn't really put Ngoudjo in that category though. He's quick and has a good jab from the outside, but I think he's a lot more comfortable fighting boxer-punchers who give him room than all out pressure fighters. All of the notable fighters he's faced (M'Baye, Malignaggi, Castillo, Bailey, Augustus) pressured him in spurts and gave him trouble with it, but at the same time they let him push them back too often and showed him too much respect.

Ngoudjo has never faced a fighter like Urango and I'm not sure if he's ready for someone like him. Urango is one of the physically strongest fighters in the sport and Ngoudjo has never faced someone who will not only outmuscle him on the inside, but also will not show him respect for his power. Urango has been badly hurt once, but it was in the first round of a fight he didn't train 100% for and by a harder puncher.. I think it's pretty safe to say it will take a lot for Ngoudjo to hurt him on a night like this where he should be fully motivated.

No matter what Ngoudjo chooses to do, IMO he'll be uncomfortable doing it. When he chooses to fight backwards, he'll have trouble because Urango will walk him down and force him to the ropes, where he'll be able to explode. Ngoudjo has a nice jab moving backwards and side to side, but that's all he has really. He needs to set himself to throw combos and when he does this, he's highly vulnerable to getting hit, especially against someone who will not move back when he throws and will answer back with wild power punches instantly. I think there will be a common scenario here where Ngoudjo tries to unload a combo, but leaves himself open or stays inside for too long and gets caught by big Urango hooks moving straight back or right after he misses. When that happens, Ngoudjo might become too cautious and do two things.. clinch (which might be good for Urango because he could tire him with his strength in the clinch) or move to the ropes with his guard up too much, letting Urango have too many opportunities to unload and catch him with more shots.

Ngoudjo is used to moving/jabbing, throwing a combo on the inside, then pushing his opponent back and throwing more. He won't be able to push Urango back and like against Bailey he'll be worried about his power, so I see him panicking a bit and making even more mistakes than usual. His chin is a real concern here. He was on the verge of getting knocked out by Augustus in the 12th (more because of exhaustion though) and was stunned a few times by Bailey. Urango not only has power, but he throws from many angles and I think he could catch Ngoudjo with punches he won't see coming that hurt him. Going to war with Urango would be a terrible idea, but when he's uncomfortable with boxing I think he will be forced to do it and it will lead to getting tired faster. I favor Urango to break him down and stop him in the mid-late rounds when Ngoudjo is probably up on the cards, but tiring and looking worried.

So, that's the argument for Urango being favored. The other likely outcome is Ngoudjo following a smart gameplan for 12 rounds and pacing himself to win a clear decision. He could do this by jabbing and moving a lot more than ever to keep Urango off balance, then clinching when Urango gets on the inside and throwing combos when it's less risky to do so (after Urango misses or 1-2's from the outside when he's off balance). I don't think Ngoudjo will box that smart though, he's too much of a fighter at heart and is not comfortable being in the ring without mixing it up. The one thing I'm really not sure about is how well Ngoudjo will take Urango's bombs.. to sum this fight up in one sentence: if Ngoudjo can take Urango's occasional bombs and box smart for the majority of the rounds, he will win. I don't think he will, but it's basically a pick'em fight.

IMO.. 35% Urango TKO, 20% Urango Decision, 35% Ngoudjo decision, 10% Ngoudjo TKO.

    Oh, and one other thing..

Headbutts. Lots of them. Urango comes in with his head down, no jab, and a southpaw stance. Ngoudjo gets wild sometimes on the inside and collides heads with most of his opponents who aren't even southpaws. Plus, his face and eyes have swollen up badly in previous fights. If his eye closes up like it did against M'Baye, he's screwed.

Excellent, I agree with most of this. Good to have you in the Brit forum :good

I think you are correct with the percentages, I'm a little uncertain on Ngoudjo's ability to take those punches. Hopefully he'll follow a gameplan where he does not need to do so on a regular basis...but you never know with him. This is going to be an absorbing fight.

Good close fight this. I picked Urango by tko but there is no logic behind that other than that he has one of my favourite KOs.

I won't cos my internet connection at home is fcuked and virgin media are being assholes over sorting it out (am posting from work, though as some of you have probably noticed I haven't been doing much of that today). Will be watching tonight though.

    Have a good weekend all.

I think it will be a good one.

Not sure what to expect really - Urango was stood on his head by Hatton.... Ngoudjo has a couple of questionable losses.....

What do you think of the Castillo & Paulie fights - how did you score them?

I had Castillo edging him out only just, a draw would have been fine as well, whilst I think he drew with Paulie - the judge who had it 117-111 against needs laser treatment.
