I don't really believe that they were fighting amongst themselves to face Haye. Why would either one of them want the fight? They have very little to gain from this fight in truth
No doubt they were salivating over the prospect of fighting a man who was still a cruiserweight in 2008. Is that something that makes you beam with pride, Widdow?
That's very true, and in no way meant to demean the best cruiserweight on the planet as of 2008. Haye has a lot of balls to go from Monte Barrett to only a second fight at HW against Klitschko.
Salivating over fighting a man who seriously dissed them. They have lots to gain from this fight: shutting Haye up. At this point it's personal.
Hmm not sure about that. This fight will have a lot of attention on it when it goes down, certainly more than say Wlad vs Thompson!
If Wlad wins,so what?Hes supposed to win right??People won't heap praise on him like they will if Haye wins.If Haye wins, people will say Wlad lost to a chinny cruiser etc. and the haters on here will have a field day
I think the fact that the man weighed in at under 200 pounds less than a year ago and is essentially unproven at the higher weight (in an elite and/or sustained manner) is the prime motivator. Of course neither Klitschko nor his fans would ever admit as much. If Klitschko somehow manages to lose this fight it is going to be very ugly for those reasons. If you thought the Sanders or Brewster debacles were notable, this would be monumental. Besides, Haye did what was necessary to get a title shot early in the game. Can't fault him for that. After all, he's standing behind his words with virtually ZERO experience at HW. Klitschko may have a weak chin, but he is also a huge, powerful HW. I give Haye a ton of credit for valour.
I voted for Haye. Wlad is stylistically the kind of fighter Haye feasts upon, tall, upright, robotic, predictable. But heres the rub, he is TALLER, BIGGER, STRONGER etc etc than anyone he has beaten before. If he struggles to land or lands and nothing happens, its gonna be over fast. I think Haye is counting on it being similar to the fight Wlad lost to Sanders. Like others have said, you may not like Haye but he has balls, look at his last 5 fights.
The second pertinent rub is that Klitschko will absolutely maul him if need be. Give the man credit for now knowing how to wrestle with the best of them when threatened by any semblance of real power. :yep
Radar, welcome back. :good You do raise good points about the lose/lose position that Haye has put Wladimir in, but since when were the haters going to give WK credit regardless of who he beats & how fast he beats them? If he fought Arreola & KO'd him in the first round those folks would say Arreola was so bad rather than Wlad was so good. See my point? WK can only fight those fighters that are available & ranked/mandatory. It's practically pointless to try to convince those "fans" anyway so why not go for the money fight, which is Haye right now, and build your legacy 1 fight at a time? That's kinda the way Lewis did it and if you remember correctly most boxing fans HATED Lewis until he retired.............
..................and as for Haye's so called bravery, keep in mind that his chin & defense are so bad that any decent HW should be able to knock his ass out. This one has mismatch written all over it. Haye probably figures he'll go out with a bang & bank the proceeds, why risk any dangerous tune-ups? How many of you really believe Monte Barrett was really a legit top 10 Heavy when he fought Haye? Haye promised he would fight a real challenge and specifically said a top 10 ranked fighter.
A couple points.... 1. Obviously you are still picking Haye to win by knockout... so I don't see how you can try and bash on Wlad for taking the fight.... or act like they are picking on the smaller guy. 2. It doesn't matter what weight Haye fought at previously. Haye is a natural heavyweight, and he will be a heavyweight when he steps into the ring, that's all that matters. This is exactly what I said would happen back before this fight was thought to be on the table. Everyone and the mother was bashing on Wlad, saying that he was a coward and afraid to fight Haye, ect.... So, as soon as I got an inside tip that Wlad was fighting Haye instead, I started a thread asking if people would then give Wlad respect if he somehow ended up fighting Haye. This is why. People try to make it a lose-lose-lose situation. Wlad doesn't fight Haye... Wlad's a coward..... Wlad gets beat by Haye, he loses everything.... Wlad beats Haye, and then the critics will say that Haye was unproven at Heavyweight and is a blown up cruiseer. For Haye it's a win-win. He wins, he gets it all. If he loses, then he gets the big payday, and so what... he lost to the best Heavyweight in the world. However, by choosing Haye to knock Wlad out... you lose all rights to criticize Wlad for taking the fight. You also put yourself into the position of eating crow and giving Wlad credit when he wins.
I dont know if Barrett was top 10 in his prime, back in 03 when he fought Mesi, let alone in his most recent fight against Haye. However, Haye is clearly Wlad's toughest challenge in years, his power alone should make Wlad sweat a bit, not to mention his top notch handspeed and reflexes. Haye's chin does scare me, and it could be the only achilles heel in his armor, something Wlad's right hand is bound to find in under 8 rounds imo.
