I just recently revived my interest in boxing, and I can't get enough of it Anyone want to recommend some classic fights that I should catch? Thanks!
Welcome to the board, and back to boxing. I suppose it really depends on what you have already seen. Check out Youtube as a starting point, because one could fill pages of 'must watch' classics.
A good starting place would be to have an interest in Duran, Hagler, Leonard and Hearns. Check out their fights against each other. That will get the juices flowing. I'd also recommend that you go back in time and view Louis and Pep, etc.
Try looking up Julio Cesar Chavez. That's what got me back into the sport aftr about 8 years away from it after my GRamps passed on. You'll be all over the sport before you know it.
Depends what you're into. You want beautiful boxing which the everyday fan would find boring watch some Hopkins or Sweet Pea. Looking for a good brawl, watch Morales-Barrera fight 1 or the first Chavez-Taylor fight. Youtube is a great site for compilations of certain fighters and it has a decent amount of full fights as well. Keep an eye out here too for recommendations.
..........To the thread starter, I would ask some questions first. For example, what is it about boxing that drew you back? Was it a specific fight or fighter? Perhaps a more vague ideal about what boxing represents compared to other sports? If so, what is that ideal? If it was a fight that got you interested again, what was it about that fight that you liked? We can answer this question better when we know these things. Until then, we're just naming one or two fights at a time out of hundreds of good bouts.
Corbett Fitz. If you can track it down find the 30 min version of Walker Loughran. That was a great fight.
You can start with some Robinson-Lamotta, Then work to some Robinson-Basillio, Then go onto some Leonard-Duran (1&2), Leonard-Hearns, Halger-Mugabi, Hearns-Cuerves, Pryor-Arguello... From there you will know what you want to see. These fights have the greatest fighters, in there toughest challenges in there primes, and they are action packed!
Barrera/Morales I. Don't expect to see anything top it afterwards, however. That is as good as this sport gets.
I am in the same situation as you are. I googled & found all of The RING magazine's yearly "Fight of The Year" winners(which goes back decades) & that was a very valuable 'start'. And then found the fights on youtube/elsewhere when available. That will 'help' you to identify fighters whose styles/weight class you like & start from there. Also gather a list of the Ring's All Time 100 Best p4p/punchers/Hw's (or the class you prefer)& start with them also by pulling up what is considered their 'classic' fights.
