Boxing is sport with a long history, certainly this brief portion of history when two brothers were co-champions won't detriment the sport. On the other hand, it adds a rather unique and yet another inspiring story to our beloved sport!
On the flip-side, the state of boxing is often dependent upon the state of the heavyweight division, which has not had a real champion since Lennox Lewis retired. Add in the fact that DLH (the sport's biggest attraction) is a shot fighter, and that guys like Pacquiao and Mayweather (after he returns) aren't hanging around too much longer, and the picture isn't pretty.
No. The Klitschkos keep fighting and beating the best, so if they both have titles, it's more or less irrelevant. They are both getting the job done and young Klitschko has been extremely active.
Which is why the point of the thread is absurd. I talk to casual boxing fans all of the time. I have never heard ONE of them complain that the Klitschko brothers aren't fighting each other. It doesn't even occur to most normal people that fighting each other is even an option. This is because most casual fans just enjoy the sport for what it is. They think that both of the Klitschko brothers are beasts, and look forward to both of their fights. If anything.. they get to watch more fights and have more interest in the unique situation. Shouldn't your question be geared towards Valuev? His team and himself are holding the WBA belt hostage, and not even fighting top contenders... let alone trying to unify. The only tough fight they are willing to throw him in is the fight against Chagaev that they can't avoid. Besides that... Vitali turns 38 years old this year, and I am SURE that you don't expect him to hang around much longer. As soon as Vitali vacates or loses that title... Wlad will be right there to pick it up. Regardless of Vitali's win over Peter, and Vitali holding the WBA title... he isn't the true Champion anyways. Everyone and their mother knows that Wlad is the true champ of the division. Those titles are all but worthless right now. It sure as hell isn't as if the WBA title holds any weight... right? Neither does Vitali beating Sam Peter for the WBC title after 4 years of inactivity. It was a great win... but Wlad already beat Peter, and that WBC title makes Vitali the WBC Champion... but it doesn't effect Wlad's status as the true Champion one bit. I think that you are putting WAY too much emphasis on those Organizations that are doing more to ruin the sport than any boxer could ever dream.
They are good for boxing! Everybody have their own style, I don't think that Wlad style is boring as boxingfans say here. All the fights that Wlad has been in hasn't been boring. Maybe one or two. Most of the times he closes the show with spectacular knockdowns! He has had really good fights with for example Peter, Mercer, Byrd.
It is bad that the flagship division is being held to ransom as the two pick which of them will fight which opponents. Vitali is harming Wlad by being around. The aim of any true warrior is to be the best by fighting the best. Either one of the Klitschkos could be very very good for boxing, intelligent, generally respectful, talented and always in good condition, however with them both on the scene the sport loses what should be an iconic figure. As an aside i feel the Spinks brothers are more deserving of accolades as they both were linear champions
outrageous ppv's are bad for boxing. robberies are bad for boxing. cheating is bad for boxing. corruption is bad for boxing. multiple abc organizations are bad for boxing. john ruiz is bad for boxing......................... the klits are not bad for boxing.
Boxing is better off with the Klitschkos splitting the titles than some chump like Sam Peter being a "undisputed" champ
Fully agree. Good response. :good I think, for the little time that Vitali is in the game, the history making novelty, of two brothers being world title holders at the same time is a news story that will get press coverage, assuming they can get a fight for that last title from Valuev, and hold all four major titles.
damn my bad i answered to the thread title not the poll question I am a Vitali fan, but a Wlad neutral, and of course its bad for boxing that they won't unify with each other. Vitali should drop his belt and let little bro unify.
No way its bad for boxing. These guys are brothers. How can you blame them for not fighting eachother. Could you find the right spirit to go out and try and knock your brothers head off? They are very close and want to be for the rest of there lives especially AFTER there careers are over Give it alittle time... Vitali will retire again for good and Wlad will continue on the quest of total unification
