Well done CHB... I can only take a wild guess.... The only names that sping to mind are Tuttenham and Bannister... yet Im not too sure of either footy careers... other than a degree of involvement...
Neither of those.......but Wayne Bannister played at Collingwood in the 70's (didn't play firsts though?) and his son currently plays at Carlton). I think I remember Bannister saying that at least in the ring you could see who was about to hit you, whereas on the footy field you could never be sure. For that reason he thought boxing was safer and gave footy away.
Rocky Mattioli... he belted Ekharde dagge... unfortunately, dagge struggled with drugs in later years... no longer with us.. Actually a very very sad story to read...
Yep, he's the guy. Most football supporters didn't realise Gull had fought at Festival Hall, and were absolutely shocked when he decked Andrews, who was the meanest, toughest thing going around at that time.
Gus Lesnevich...and it took Ezzard Charles to stop him! Gotta go watch the last few overs of the SA innings on the TV.
Here's a new one: Question: Turned professional after being barred from the Olympics for not trying. Known for his dynamite right hand that he actually gave a nick-name. Strung 20 odd wins together before winning a world title. In the return match with the now former champ he again performed badly (perhaps questionably). In a 3rd and deciding match against the same fighter he fought gamely, knocking his opponent down twice, before being KO'ed himself, and losing the title. .....Will add some hints as we go if needs be.
