Why did Roach take the Barrera fight?

Is it a calculated high risk gamble with higher rewards?

ie If Khan is good enough to get to the top then why not fight a faded Barrera now.

I reckon Roach knows something we don't.

Maybe he has had reports that Barrera is showing a certain degree of slipage, something relating to a deterioration in his reflexes and/or punch resistance (getting put down or hit too often in sparring perhaps).

He may think what had been a high risk/high reward fight has now turned into a medium risk/high reward bout.

    This is just a theory.

He did admit that he had to think about it, it wasn't an instant yes when Frank Warren told him so they know it is a very dangerous fight but he thinks they can do it.

I think all the success has gone to Roach's head, and now he thinks he can devise a plan to beat any fighter. Problem is, he can only win if that fight is Manny Pacquiao.

    Stupid choice.

They don't think Barrera can hurt Khan and if he wins it will be enough for Warren to start spouting about a world title shot. I wish him all the best coz he seems like a genuine lad but my feeling is that this one may end in tears again.

Roach probably deemed it better to have his boy lose to a future hall of famer, rather than to up-and-comers with no names.

I wonder if Roach thinks he is damaged goods. As has been said before you can't teach someone how to have a good chin and Khan's is way bad!

If Khan wins it catapults him up the rankings and probably sets up another big fight.

If Khan loses then he will have earned a very nice payday before slipping into that twilight world of Fraudley Harrison.

I suppose this where Roach comes in. He can't help him with his chin but he can certainly help improve his defence. If he can improve this considerably then he definitely has a chance coz his speed and power have never been in question.

Roach has seen Khan spar vs Pacman and know how good Khan is, Roach does not see no point of Khan fighting pointless fights vs no name fighters now. It's time for Khan to fight a real fight. This fight will show us what Khan is all about. Khan's fast jab, fast feet, and movement will be the key.

    I dont know.

Barreras hardly gonna go down easy, and Khans not just gonna outbox him for 12 without getting hit.

Hes past it but hes still Barrera.

I cant believe he wont test Khans chin at least a few times and I dont think Khan will pass that test personally.

but if he looses he looses to a legend, Berrera wont Ko Khan, there is no doubt Khan has skills, over 12 rounds its going to be interesting, the fight will be won on points or Khan KO.
