We are always talking about Frazier never beat a prime Ali and how Douglas could never defeat a Prime Tyson, but how long does a prime last and what does affect this, I mean is a 30 year old with fifty fights in better shape than a 35 year old with thirty fights, or can one really tough fight finish a fighter like the Cotto loss.
Come on, everyone is different, if there was a simple formula to figuring this out, then there would be no need for a forum.
I am sure a big contributory factor is how disiplined a fighter is outside of the ring, some fighters of recent vintage got to the top, seemed to be poised for a lenghty stay at the top, then fell away, they could have had fabulous lucrative careers, and come back from defeats, but wasted their talent, Lack of disipline, determination, desire, motivation, call it what you will, but the mindset of a fighter is probably the most crucial piece of the Jigsaw. Talent can be improved and honed but its no good without the fuel of dedication.
:roflatsch Mike Tyson was as Prime as it gets against Buster Douglas. He was like 25 years old for christ sakes! Douglas stomped a Prime Mike Tyson.
Some fighters have fairly long primes like Lennox Lewis and Oscar De La Hoya, I'm thinking 4-6 years for both, some have short primes, like Naz - 2-3 years.
I suppose the wind of the shots Spinks thown at Tyson, made Tyson age faster?? Tyson before Douglas was never in a war. Guys like Armstrong, Nelson, McGoven(Terry) They come and go in a flash. And by 27 or so are past there best. But thats not because they got old, its that these guys been in WARS. And the beatings they took and came back to win. Tyson was never in a fight to age him as fast as these guys. Tyson was prime.
Agreed. I noticed how boxer/punchers like Ali, Louis, Holmes, Lewis, etc all had relatively long primes. But the swarmer/pressure fighters like Rocky, Tyson, Dempsey, Frazier, etc, expired earlier, like in their early 30s. But the boxers fought well until their late 30s. But again, everyone's prime is different...
i have just made the mathematic formula for it length of prime= age x fights x Pie x the circumfrence of the fighters biceps x weight x age of person using the formula x how many drinks you have had it works real well try it
1 fight. Mike Tyson's prime fight lasted under a minute; therefore, he would beat any boxer in history, since no boxer can win a fight if they've been knocked out in the first minute. Ergo, Tyson is the best of all time.
