I suppose it could be the way in which the fighter was defeated, the most recent example being Margarito who was totally outclassed, however the likes of rafael marquez stay in the list because his defeats were closely contested.
I guess I think along the same lines as TTPF. I guess he means that Mosley looked crap against Mayorga and would be nowhere near the top 10 beforehand. But suddenly, his fabulous performance catapults him midtable in the 10. How can one performance justify that?
It's not just extreme losses that signal the end, though. Cotto lost against Margarito, I'm not sure where he was previously, maybe 5 or 6, now he's gone completely. Margarito joins the list and replaces him. Margarito then loses. Mosley joins the list. It's pure bull****. How can all these guys go from top 10 to nowhere, and vice-versa? Also consider Cotto beat Mosley atsch Example 2, I don't know where Hatton peaked, but he was fairly high at one point. He's disapeared completely after losing to the supposed #1 according to Ring. How does that work? I personally never had Hatton has a top 10 fighter, but if I did, I would certainly be consistent and fair with my choices. Edit: I realise Hatton has reappeared. Which is even more of a joke. For what? Beating Malignaggi? This whole thing is a farce. There is no logical system, its a series of laughable knee jerks from a bunch of suits sitting around at GBP HQ.
No. He's easily the 3rd best heavyweight as of now. He Unified the Cruiserweight Division in 2008 before stepping up to Heavyweight. I'm taking into account his feat's in the last year. He deserves a place on my list.
Nope, I think you are just giving him credit for his Crusierweight accomplishments but thats the problem with these P4P lists everyone has different criteria. I also agree with TFFP on the kneejerk nature of the lists, based on one fight you can jump straight into the list at number 5 but then be out of the top 10 one fight later.
They need to publish a top 15 and start getting serious with these lists. It's time to have courage in their convictions. If a guy in the top 5 loses badly, relegate him to lower/middle table by all means and promote the victor either above him if he was closely ranked, or just into the top 10. In other words, don't fudge the issue, see how it plays out in the following fights. They should have a 15 so we can see where these guys are disapearing to, and who are the logical replacements, not this knee jerk lineal system.
But I don't understand the point unless it's a current list. Since Haye is now a HW, he has to regarded as a HW in these lists, no? And pound for pound to me means regardless of weight, who's better. Since Haye & the Klits are the same weight, why does Haye get judged differently? If Haye doesn't get his shot at the Klitschkos for another 2 years while they keep winning and he plods along beating other decent HWs - will Haye drop out after a year?
That's why i posted a top 20. Margarito drop's quite far because he got Annihilated. Mosley jumps quite high because he did the Annihilating, And Rafael Marquez is coming off two defeat's one a KO so shouldn't be anywhere top ten. Anyway these list's are a bit of fun we're boxing fan's not expert's (well i am anyway) it's all just opinions really.
Wladimir deserves serious consideration for a top 10. His consistency of performance and opponent merits it. Caballero, seriously? Is there an argument for him above Wlad on anything other than not including a heavyweight?
Hatton? HATTON? you must be having a Steffi. Since getting the tar knocked out of him and then banjoed by PBF he's beat Lazcano (via shoelace tying by ref) and Paulie......and what were his fights before that again? , p4p top 10...good one.
No he isnt. Obviously why you dont like P4P list is because you dont know what they mean. If it was as simple as you say then why would Pac be at No.1. He's done **** all at 147 or 140. 1. Manny Pacquiao 2. Juan Manuel Marquez 3. Joe Calzaghe 4. Bernard Hopkins 5. Israel Vasquez 6. Shane Mosley 7. Ricky Hatton 8. David Haye 9. Ivan Calderon 10. Miguel Cotto
Manny Pacquiao Joe Calzaghe Bernard Hopkins Juan Manuel Marquez Israel Vazquez Ivan Calderon Ricky Hatton Wladimir Klitschko Rafael Marquez Shane Mosley Agree with what others have said about too much emphasis placed on single results.
