Bernard Hopkins held his own very well against that drunkard Larry Merchant!!

I think this video is one of the reasons why some like Merchant. Because he is up front and honest. He doesn't try to kiss ass. He did that sh*t to RJJ plenty of times. And RJJ had to check him too.

 

In a funny way i do like him, his respect level for certain fighters is outrageously low. He got it bad with floyd mayweather. 'Larry merchant is just a commentator he don't know nothing about boxing'!!!

 

But he is just a commentator and has no right to disrespect fighters that way. Telling Hopkins that he can gaurantee he wont get payed again. :-(

 

I understand your point, and your point I think is where I may have defended him before....for asking questions most wouldn't etc...

But that right there was horse ****. Telling Hopkins he shouldn't get paid, and probably won't get paid ever again and ****.

What Larry should have asked something like: Mr. Hopkins, how do you feel about the current state of the MW division if this is the type of fighter the WBC is gonna MANDATE you to fight to keep your belt?

anything other than be so damned rude to Bernard for fighting his MANDATORY!!

The more I think about the **** he said and the way he was sayin' it, it's truely pissin' me off. And I know that is some old ****, but still.:bart

 

The best part was when he thought he got one up on B.Hop by asking if it was embarassing for the M/W champion calling out JR. Middle weights. The look on his face Just after he asked that was priceless. Hopkins gave a VALID answer.

Funny thing about that is at the end he says "winky wright wants to fight you". And wright is a Jr Mw.

I made a thread about this same type of garbage that comes out of these commentators mouths. These are the people who are partially responsible for killing the sport... IMO every HBO commentator should be replaced, they do nothing but tear down the fighters and their accomplishments, also the manner in which they call the fights is even worse.

its easy to sit their and suck a fighters dick after a win. what makes a good commentator is one who asks the tough questions, the questions that people want to hear the answer to. thats why i like merchant. i agree he goes a litttle too far sometimnes but if it were lampley in there and would just sit and compliment the ****in guy till he blows in his pants.

 

In fairness to Hopkins he defended himself well...
