------- 1. Ray Robinson 2. Ray Leonard 3. Emile Griffith 4. Jose Napoles 5. Henry Armstrong 6. Mickey Walker 7. Kid Gavilan 8. Joe Walcott 9. Tommy Hearns 10. Oscar de la Hoya Just missing: McLarnin, Tito, Mosley, Whitaker, Curry. *Hearns' resume at 147 is not so good, though he was a monster toe-to-toe. *I rank Whitaker in my Top15. He's resume sucks at 147. Oscar and Tito faced better competition at 147, and also Mosley .
1. Ray Robinson 2. Ray Leonard 3. Jose Napoles 4. Henry Armstrong 5. Barbados Joe Walcott 6. Mickey Walker 7. Kid Gavlian 8. Emile Griffith 9. Felix Trinidad 10. Tommy Hearns Nice list but Griffith is a bit high I think Tito was more impressive than Mosley, DLH or Whitaker at this weight. At least resmue wise not head 2 head. Barney Ross should be in the top 15 also, maybe top 10
Napoles easily outpointed Griffith while Griffith was campaigning as a middleweight. Napoles was one of the best and should be higher than Emile. Hearns may not have had the "resume" at Welter but he was no lower that no. 3 if you are rating for "who would beat who". Only the Sugar Rays could have beaten Hearns at Welter.
DLH is ahead of Tito on the ATG list, but he was not a better WW. Tito never lost at WW, which included 16 title fights. And Whitaker belongs in the top 10...no question
In the case of Hearns you have to take his 154 pound competition and factor it in since he was fighting some of his welterweight companions. Duran and Benitez he fought at 154 when both were champions, and the same results would have probably occured at welterweight. So Hearns in the welt and superwelt divisions fought Cueves,Leonard,Benitez and Duran. Top that. Plus he fought Randy Shields and Harold Weston and Bruce Curry at that weight among others.
Here's 14, having trouble narrowing it down. Ray Robinson Joe Walcott Ray Leonard Kid Gavilan Jose Napoles Emile Griffith Luis Manuel Rodriguez Ted Kid Lewis Thomas Hearns Charley Burley Jack Britton Henry Armstrong Carmen Basilio Mickey Walker
1. Ray Robinson 2. Ray Leonard 3. Kid Gavilan 4. Joe Walcott 5. Jose Napoles 6. Emile Griffith 7. Charley Burley 8. Henry Armstrong 9. Mickey Walker 10. Luis Manuel Rodriguez That's my attempt. Wouldn't argue with a few others coming in for a top 10 spot, or some changes of placement towards the bottom of my top 10.
1 Sugar Ray Robinson 2 Sugar Ray Leonard 3 Henry Armstrong 4 Barbados Joe Walcott 5 Kid Gavilan 6 Jose Napoles 7 Emile Griffith 8 Felix Trinidad 9 Jack Britton 10 Thomas Hearns
He's beaten far better competition than ***** Boy Floyd, that's for goddamn sure. Especially at Welterweight.
Hmmmm.... my top five would be- Ray Robinson Jose Napoles Kid Gavilan Ray Leonard Thomas Hearns Not quite sure in which order to rank Griffith, Walcott, Armstrong etc etc Wouldn't have Tito, DLH or Mosley in my top ten though. Though Tito would probably make my top 20. He was brilliant at the weight. So I will have to have a think.
