He reffed Medina - Marquez is that counts. http://www.boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?human_id=400851&cat=referee
This. I remember Steve Collins saying himself and a few 'name' boxers talked about referees and it was pretty much unanimous that Cortez was the worst.
IMHO Cortez interferences at the beginning actually bought Hatton more time...he was getting hurt inside and in the pocket
theres no way hatton was going to steal 3-4 rounds - and its unlikely the fight would have gone the distance. hatton was outclassed, no matter what your pride tells you, but cortez was pretty damn poor.
I ask that question because some people (not everybody) seem to insinuate that Cortez has something against Hatton. I more less am of the opinion that Cortez is just the kind of ref who doesn't stand for clinching. I don't have other examples to support my theory but I just don't buy into Cortez disrupting Hatton's attack because he's got something against him.
Cortez had a stinker in Hatton-Castillo, Hatton played him like a fiddle faking low blows and getting away with illegal wrestling tactics. Against Mayweather he broke the holding, which is his job to do so, there was so much clinching though that he broke them a couple of times before they even clinched Not really a bad performance, just Hatton fans are used to him getting away with blue murder and the Brit commentators were ultra biased
Nah,apparently the other thing he does is **** with mexicans so Hatton was ok while fighting Castillo.Jose Luis was his target.Apparently.
If Hatton was not doing his usual huggy bear routine it wouldn't even have been issue. Sometimes your history of cheating comes back to haunt you.
