There's a book being advertised on the Net at the moment about Ketchel - looks like an amazing story.

Ok guys.... thinking caps on!!!! Ya getting the answers too easily.

Vic Patrick spat the dummy as a referee, and walked out of the ring whilst a fight was still in progress....

    Who were the combatants????

Was it Bronco Johnson and Alfie Sands?

What was Frank Slavin's profession in his youth?

Not sure how many bouts Vic reffed - but something like from 1948 to 1975. Any clues on at least an era?

Famengo, did you check off the Rock's answer above (Bronco Johnson vs Alfie Sands)?

I'm hoping he's correct 'cause I'm struggling here!!

Yeah Ippy, at times there are too many questions at once.

One of the challenges is that the people frequenting this thread have different habits:

Some are only online only at night.
Some are only online only during the day.
Others (like myself) sneak on whenever they've got a few minutes (including at work).

Because of all this the people traffic and flow of questions & answers is all a bit random.

Any good ideas can be considered though I'm sure.

This one does appear to be the correct answer Rock. I was looking At Wally Burns & Alf Sands, where I believe Burns took a dive without being hit - but it wasn't the one.

    This was the story apparently:

Bronco Johnson broke almost every rule in the book including kidney punches, palming, rabbit killers, kneeing, back handers and hitting on the break. Alfie Sands spent most of the time with his head and shoulders through the ropes. They continued fighting after referee Vic Patrick had left the ring and had to be broken up.The near capacity crowd of about 10,000 booed and chanted fisho.

    - even though it sounds like a disgrace would love to have seen it!

Not sure if I've solved the Frank Slavin question or not - probably not?

Will throw another one into the mix anyway:

    QUESTION

Approx 30 years ago two internationals met at the Olympic Velodrome, one an Italian, the well know and popular favourite. The other an unknown, rank outsider.

Following a big body shot the favoured fighter decided he'd had enough, raised a glove and retreating to his corner.

The crowd went absolutely nuts and beer cans lobbed into the ring like a hail storm. The referee was hit in the head and others including women in the crowd were hit in the crossfire.

The son of the promoter, Bill Long, was standing near the guy who threw the can that hit the referee. The younger Long snotted the guy, knocking him unconcious.

Leo Berry, who was acting in the winner's corner grabbed his fighter and fled to the dressing room. Others took cover under chairs and the ring until it was safe to come out.

Who were the fighters engaged in this match that ended in such a farce??

Not quite from my sources Couldhavebeen..it was a labour intensive job. A very famous fighter had a similar job when he was young and was said to have got his strength from it.
