Chavez Vs Taylor 1 - The Stoppage and Aftermath

Been a long time since i actually watched it, but didn't he wave it off right away after asking the second time, not giving him any chance to reply anyway.

 

Actually Taylor looked at Lou Duva, who stupidly jumped up on the ring apron, distracting Taylor at the absolute worst possible time.

 

If you're scoring fights on the state of a boxer's face after the bout, you're talking about a different sport from the rest of us. I'm not saying you're an idiot at all: I'm saying that your scoring criteria are incorrect.

 

This fight has been discussed since March 17th, 1990, and it will be discussed on March 17th, 19990 or however long we human beings exist.

Good stoppage. The fact that Taylor was winning the fight, handily, I might add, doesn't change the fact that had the man took one more good shot, who knows if would have made it out of that ring alive.

Also, he did not answer Steele's simple "You OK?! You OK?!" question.

 

He didn't look too bad? hahahahah! The dude is still suffering from the punishment 19 years later, and he didn't look too bad. hahahah!

 

I had it 7-3-1, or 107-103, for Taylor going into the 12th. Rounds 1, 3-8 for Taylor. Rounds 2, 9, and 11 for Chavez, and round 10 even.

He took a lot of punishment in his career.

Chavez gave him the worst beating, but it's not like his brain damage came from that alone.

 

Yeah, the Chavez fights were just a fraction of what wrong with Taylor there Strongarm.

Steele got a lot of the blame that should've gone to Duva and even Taylor himself. Staring blankly at your cornerman while he jumps up and down on the ring apron like a madman, and not responding to the referee when he asks "Are you alright??", is not what you're supposed to do when you've been floored and are hurt.

Duva also screamed at Taylor "You gotta win this round... Go knock him out!!" before the start of the round. atsch

 

How long should he have waited? How many times is he supposed to ask? If he waited any longer, it would've been unfair to Chavez to deprive him of the chance to knock the guy out. Steele had to make a decision fast, and it was Taylor's responsibility to look him in the eye (which he didn't) and answer his questions the first time (not the 2nd or 3rd time).

 

I don't disagree, but fi you ask a guy if he's ok then wave it off the instant you've finished saying it(giving the fighter no time to reply anway)..well that's just poor officiating.The problem i have with steele is he sure didn't mind letting other fighters continue in similar situations.

As i said it's been a while since i watched and paid much attention to the stoppage so i could be remembering it incorrectly anyway.

 

Yeah he does. Another example would bee in the fight with Ruddock and Tyson. That was the most uncalled for stoppages i have ever see. That had all the makings of being a classic!atsch.

Ruddock was smiling for god sakes, mike landed a combo, he just slipped a little onto the ropes and Steele waives the fight off:-(

 

It wasn't a shutout but it was close to being so. Taylor won rounds 1-10. You had to be blind not to see that. In 11 and 12 Chavez looked like he took control.

Chavez got a grade A boxing lesson in that fight. Chavez had to have had some illegal handwraps.:roll:
