Same here, i can understand it from the more insular US fans and he could have stepped up the competition before he did but my thoughts are he's one of ours and he's super-talented, so we should be proud of him.

I'm no fan of his style of fighting, but I give him his due for recent accomplishments. Id be a bit take-him-or-leave-him in the Brit Forum, but would normally back him to the hilt against the ultra-haters in the GF.

In the Brit Forum I think it's mainly the Hatton huggers, a bit cheesed off that their boy is not the British #1.

It is his personality that I deeply dislike.

I love watching him as a fighter, but feel that he wasted his talent fighting bums - yet believing he was something extraordinary.

Going on about having 20-odd world title fights, come on son, most of those guys were little better than Commonwealth title level!

He can only fight who's available tho. the big name americans weren't interested in fighting him up until 5 or 6 years ago.

I don't know. We're talking about a quiet family man that hates being infront of the camera. He looks awkward and flustered and gets his wires crossed, but he's not arrogant like some. I think he'd sooner be at home, but he must fulfil his obligations.

  8. I can completely understand why people underrate him. It's a slightly ignorant point of view but the facts are there in black and white, alot of people are only one click away from seeing a long list of 'nobodys' on Wiki when it comes to Joe's resume. From the outside looking in it would appear he's been a lazy ******* for the best part of 10 years, and only just pulled his finger out of his arse and fought some top guys.

However, as mentioned before, for a fan who's followed his career, his immense talent was never in question. He beat alot of good guys with decent reputations, and a good few former World Champs. I believe he always wanted the top fights himself, they just never materialised in the early days.

People act like RJJ, Dawson, Tarver, Johnson etc's resume's are a who's who from the Hall of Fame.

    They're not.

The problem with these threads is that people who give legitimate reasons for disliking him/not rating him etc are shot down, their points ignored and are countered with the same arguments. Nothing productive ever comes of them, so I think people just need to accept some individuals have reasons for liking him and some have reasons for disliking him. We're all aware of people's respective standpoints.

  15. I was talking about the WBO days, stating that amongst the list of 'nobodys' were some good talent, and some former World Champs.
