Only Julio-Quintana was not for a title. The rest were not.

    Shaw blasts Mayorga!

“Now we know why they call Mayorga ‘The Matador,’ he’s full of bullsh*t,” said promoter Gary Shaw on the apparent cancellation of a February 14 WBC super welterweight title elimination bout between his fighter Alfredo Angulo and former world champion Ricardo Mayorga. “This is as unprofessional as it gets. We don’t hear he’s pulled out from his promoter or manager, just from everyone else in boxing. You have to wonder if he ever intended to fight at all. Mayorga didn’t show at the press conference in Florida and we have yet to see his mandatory 30-day weigh-in report from the WBC. Obviously it wasn’t a red cape he was waving, it was a red flag! But life goes on and we will make every effort to find a worthy opponent for Angulo to preserve his spot on the card and the HBO broadcast.” Angulo (14-0, 11 KOs), of Mexico, is riding a ten-bout victory-by-knockout streak dating back to 2006. The former Mexican Olympian is currently world-rated No. 1 by the WBC and the WBO and No. 7 by the IBF. The card takes place at the BankAtlantic Center in Sunrise, Fla. and includes two world title fights.

I doubt that they both make it to the championship level together undefeated --

Taylor vs Pavlik 1- Taylor was 27-0-1 and Pavlik was 31-0. Taylor was the undisputed Middleweight champion of the world and Pavlik was a top 2 contender.

Green vs Codrington- A good reason why things should be taken slowly.

DLH vs Trinidad- DLH was 31-0 and Trnidad was 35-0. DLH was 4 weight world champion and held the WBC Welterweight belt for two years while Trinidad was the IBF champ for six years. Both were massive stars already. Unification.

Trinidad vs Vargas- Trinidad was 38-0 and Vargas was 20-0. Trinidad was on top of the boxing world while Vargas was the next big thing. Both held titles at 154 and both had huge fan bases with the Puerto Rican and Mexican crowds. Unification.

Trinidad vs Reid- Another good reason that you should rush a fighter. Oh and there was a title on the line.

Cotto vs Torres- This fight was a huge suprise no one knew who Torres was a nobody expected anything from him. Again a title was on the line.

Mayweather vs Hatton- The P4P #1 going against another top P4P fighter. Hatton was 43-0 and Mayweather was 38-0. Mayweather was the champ at 147 while Hatton the champ at 140. Both were big stars in the sport.

Mosley vs Forrest- A one sided beat down which was a huge upset. Mosley was the top P4P fighter in the world while Forrest was a 34-0 title holder. Unification.

Toney vs Jones- Toney was the 1 or 2 best P4P fighter in the world at the time and RJJ was the next SRL. Jones was champ at 160 and Toney at 168.

Mirnada vs Abraham- AGain for a title.

Kessler vs Calzaghe- Each fighter had more fights then both Kirkland and Angulo combined. Unification.

Julio vs Quintana- Great fight this was.:roll:And this was a title eliminator. Julio was suppose to be the next big thing. Both had alot of expirence.

Quintana vs Cotto- Cotto coming up in weight after being champ at 140 fighting for a vacant title.

    Trinidad vs Campos- IBF title

    Adamek vs Dawson- WBC title

Now lets compare. 14-0 Angulo vs 24-0 Kirkland. Neither guy has been in a fight set to go 12 rounds. Both guys have only seen the 10th once each and the best win between the both of them is a TKO 5 over Richard Gutierrez. Neither guy has expirence. Neither guy has been in with anything close to a top 10 fighter. Why not wait a few more months?? Why this big rush to get these two unknowns in with each other??

Now that Kirkland has beaten Julio ... the buzz around the boxing community is Angulo v Kirkland ...

This fight would be better now than later ... they are both looking to become world class and it would be a slugfest ... the boxer/puncher vs the brawler ...

I don't know if Angulo would be able to handle the pressure from Kirkland ...

Put both of these guys in the ring, headlining a WCB event and have it be for an interim title or title eliminator ...

    Kirkland TKO8 on cuts ...

    What do you guys think?

Just seen an interview with Kirkland and he says that he wants the hype to build up more with him and Angulo ... I get what he's saying but who's to say that both of those guys will stay undefeated up until that point.

I like the idea but i'm very anxious to see this fight happen --
