Amir Khan is the future of world boxing!

  1. "Amir's got all the tools to go on and be a legend in boxing. I believe in him and I put my money where my mouth is. He's going to be the future of British boxing and the future of world boxing."

Not my words, but the words of Mr Frank Warren yesterday.

Does he genuinely believe what he says?

Does he have good reason to make these claims?

He has got the talent to do this but unfortunately that chin is going let him down and it is a shame.

Warren is khans promoter of course he's going to say that, I believe if Amirs chin wasnt so shaky then he might have had an argument... There have been one or two great fighters that have rebounded well from early career ko's but in this day and age, and with sports networks reputation for cautious matchmaking khans career is likely to mirror joe calzaghes only when the lacy test comes he'll get chinned. I believe warren has enough fighters to concentrate on if the khan express is derailed by barrera which is why I think he's made the match- it's make or break.

I used to like Khan until he started chatting **** about breaking records and becoming world champ long before he was ready, hes way too chinny to be the future of boxing!

I know managers always big up their fighters but Warren's managed so many in his career he must have a lot of belief in Khan to make that statement.
Usually he seems to give a bit of positivity but adds an if or a but.
Maybe i'm wrong...I can't remember a lot of the stuff he says or deliberately forget.

  7. Personally I think khan is a real talent and still has the chance to fight for world titles and even win a few in his career. The chin is the obvious worry but I think the move to Freddy Roach's gym was a very wise one and could be key. We've all seen how Roach has transformed Pacquiao from an all-out slugger to a more measured and thoughtful fighter. If he can teach Khan to keep that chin out of harms way then I think he can go far with his impressive offencive qualities.

I think it's a shame Khan didn't go the traditional British and European title route as it would have made for some good domestic fights and silenced a lot of the critics. I still think he needs to get away from Warren as soon as he can.

The funniest thing above all about Khan is that even without the glass chin, he wouldn't be anything special. His skills and talent are not very impressive.. he would be a solid B level at best with a decent chin.

Dont talk crap, Khan has all the skills in the world, only negative is his chin but i still believe he will turn into a great fighter if he sticks with Roach.

Fast hands do not equal "all the skills in the world".

Not only is his chin diabolically bad, but he has a **** defence and minimal ring intelligence; he's not great at creating angles for his punches or countering blows, instead preferring to rely on his speed to throw a flurry of punches at an oppoenent in the hope that one might land. The defence and the ring intelligence can be worked on and improved with time, but I can't see him ever coming close to ring general status.

Add on the fact that he is basically still unproven, hasn't really faced a top-notch boxer (no one remotely world-class). Prescott looks like a really big test now, given the fact that he busted Khan to **** in under a minute; but, before the fight no one gave the Colombian a chance. Prescott showed us nothing before that fight to say to us that he is "world-class", and has shown us nothing since.

The Barrera fight might show us something different, but for now any talk of Khan being the future of "even" British boxing is just Frank Warren hype bull****.

Khan will improve allot under Roach, Khan needs to become more of a thinker in the ring, become more 'Ring smart' plan his moves. Roach is an elite trainer and can improve Khan into a really good fighter.

For me one of the smartest boxers around in our age is Floyd Mayweather jr, again for me the most complete boxer. What I love about FM is that he thinks before he throws every punch, always in control, and always fights with a cool head. He knows when to defend and knows went to attack.

Khan needs to take a few pages from FM book. If Khan uses his fast hands in the right way and time his shots right, improves his defence, then he can become a very good fighter.

No, he can't. Khan categorically can not become a very good fighter.

He was put down for 10 by our very own Willie Limond. He was writhing in the ring from Michael Gomez's bodyshots, and then cuffed to the floor with a nothing shot. He was brutally KO'd inside a minute by Breidis Prescott, a complete unknown going into the fight.

It is not happening lads. Nobody has gone from these extremes to go on to become a very good fighter on the world stage. Nobody.
